I want to devise a D100 Table that can be rolled on to produce a random event in the middle of a warzone.

Just quick events, like you would get in a video game cutscene. For instance, a helicopter flying overhead and doing a strafing run.

Think of it as a near-future setting, so there may be some advances in technology. And the enemy is your generic Russo-German fascist stormtrooper bunch.

This table will hopefully form the basis of a game where your characters move through a battlefield, using their stats to exploit/escape/defeat these events, gaining new soldiers for your squad, finding weapon upgrades, and so forth.

Here's the list so far:

1. A helicopter gunship flies overhead, strafing the street around you with its gatling guns.

2. You are pinned down by enemy sniper fire.

3. You are ambushed by an enemy squad and taken prisoner

4. A lone gunman is in the opposite house. He has a hostage.

5. Artillery fire destroys the building next to you.

6. There is a tank guarding the next street.

7. You realise you are walking through a minefield.

8. An allied soldier appears and gives you covering fire

9. One of the people with you is revealed as an enemy spy

10. You are knocked out in an explosion and wake up in an enemy hospital.

11. Your weapon/equipment jams

12. You stumble on a cache of enemy loot

13. A helicopter crashes near you

14. You fall through into an underground compartment

15. An allied APC picks you up

16. You reach an allied checkpoint

17. You encounter a civilian

18. You come across an allied soldier about to be executed

19. You find an injured soldier

20. A enemy death-squad starts hunting you

21. You are engaged in hand-to-hand combat

22. You see two allied soldiers raping a civilian

23. You are knocked into a river and swept along

24. You intercept an enemy transmission

25. You find a salvageable vehicle

26. Enemy gas clouds start heading your way

27. You encounter a suicide bomber

28. You are caught in an enemy or allied airstrike

29. Enemy soldiers attempt to surrender to you.

30. Your vehicle malfunctions/runs out of fuel

31. A tank arrives to aid you in battle.

32. You raid an enemy checkpoint and find civilians huddled inside

33. You come under attack from Friendly fire

34. You come across an un-detonated piece of ordnance

35. You stumble upon a mass grave, made up of mostly civilians

36. An abandoned child tries to follow and cling to you.

37. You find the tortured bodies of several allied officers

38. You mistake an enemy for an friend and don't realize it until he's within striking distance.

39. You trigger an enemy booby trap

40. You capture an enemy soldier.

41. You find a group of enemy soldiers resting.

42. You find an enemy artillery crew.

43. The enemy is laying down suppressing fire.

44. You come across a foxhole dug into the ground.

51. You're starting to feel thirsty/hungry

52. You're starting to feel tired.

53. A natural disaster occurs nearby

54. You find your path blocked by wreckage. You have to find a way round.

55. A civilian you are helping pulls a weapon.

61. You have miss an objective by a few miles.

62. You encounter a wild and hostile animal

63. You find a PTSD'd soldier who's hallucinating.

Would this work for like, if you were performing actions? I mean, as you're shooting at the enemy you roll and, 39 means that your gun jams, for example?

...

an enemy spy falls in love with you, too bad, that spy is male, and so are you. ^_^

----------

another one...

you're knocked out in an explosion, and you wake up inside a hospital within the enemy territory

Okay, I've added those into the first post

Keep them coming

Finding oneself in the location of an airstrike done by either the enemy or your allies.

You find soldiers of the other side surrendering.

Your vehicle runs out of fuel/something fails in it.

A tank arrives to aid you in battle.

You and your men raid a suspected enemy hideout, only to see hundreds of civilians huddled inside.

Cool concept. Here are a couple I thought up.

You are being shot at by Friendly fire

You come across an un-detonated aircraft bomb/missile

You stumble upon a mass grave, made up of mostly civilians

An abandoned child, left orphaned from the war, trys to follow and cling to you.

You find the tortured bodies of several allied officers

You mistake an enemy for an friend and don't realize it until hes within striking distance.
---------------------------------------

I don't know if this is what your looking for or not, but I could come up with more if you want.

You step on a trap, or open/enter a trapped door/room. Like those things in the Yugoslavian war and shit, they put unpinned grenades on doors so that they were set off when they were opened.

That's a mouthful.

Good stuff Black Mage

You find a group/one of civilians about to be executed.

You are spotted by the enemy.

You find an enemy artillery crew.

You find an abandoned building with supplies inside.

You catch a lone enemy soldier.

You catch a group of enemy soldiers resting.

The enemy is laying down suppressing fire.

You come across a foxhole dug into the ground.

Someone has thrown a grenade at your feet.

Rain has begun to fall on the battlefield.

Ah, weather. Good thinking

99. Angels pour from the sky as it spews bright golden comets at the earth. The smell of brimstone fills your lungs. Demons erupt from the earth, and blood seeps from the cracks in the ground. The apocalypse has begun.

I'm thinking that rain effects would cause a greater chance of weapons failing and people slowing down due to slogging through mud or falling down on wet grass. Speaking of which:

A fog begins to roll in.

Paramedics have dropped down onto the battlefield.

The sun begins to set.

The sun begins to rise.

You're starting to feel thirsty/hungry/tired.

Yeah, I'm gonna come up with some rules later for the impact of each event on your squad.

Weather might be tricky, if the sun rises in one post and sets in the next. But maybe that could work - it means the next poster will have to describe a whole day passing on the battlefield with no major events...

Hmm...

A natural disaster occurs nearby (dependent on the scene of battle, of course)

An enemy heli is shot out of the sky above you and falling fast.

part of your surroundings fall apart and block your path, forcing you to find a way around.

A man you thought to be a civilian opens his jacket to reveal explosives tied to his body, ready to blow.

You run into a fully functional enemy tank.

Something you ate earlier starts disagreeing with your stomach.

You find a wounded enemy, left to die by his comrades.

You encounter an enemy barricade.

You encounter a lost ally.

You are pinned down by an enemy squadron/machine gun nest.

On your drop from the plane you seem to have lost some of your equipment.

Your parachute cords entangle in mid-air and you have to get to your second parachute.

Your helicopter is locked on by enemy AA guns.

You miss the landing zone by a few miles.

You encounter a wild animal on the field that's threatening you/an insect crawls up on you.

You find a PTSD'd soldier who's hallucinating.
