Hey there all you cool cats and kittens. XIII here, onto day 10. Can I complete it all? Maybe. We'll see.

Today's question came to me while I was driving. I was listening to the song Duct Tape by The Used and it inspires so much for all sorts of things. Stories, characters, emotions, a whole flurry of things.

So I ask you all, do you have a specific song that makes you think of a character you have, or a specific kind of music you listen to when writing?

ALWAYS. CONSTANTLY. ALL THE TIME. MOST OF THEM.

I make entire playlists for characters and roleplays, including playlists of the music the character listens to. I have designed entire roleplays based on single lines in songs. Ò◇Ó MUSIC IS INTERGRAL TO MY CREATIVE MUSE.

Oh. I have so much. I make whole playlists for stories and rps, even individual characters sometimes. I tend to pick at least one song that fits one of my characters either by the theme or lyrics or even just the artist's voice (kind of imagine that voice then as how that character's voice sounds when they speak).

I also listen to probably a ridiculous amount of music from genres and subgenres and tend to think of certain genres of music to match certain genres of writing.
Like, for example: Synthwave and dubstep works great for a sci-fi or cyberpunk setting or dark jazz music for a good mystery.

'Call me Mother' by RuPaul reminds me of my favorite character thus far, Cohen lux Avery aka Coco.
There are countless more songs associated with specific characters, but that one came to mind first.
I deeply miss using Coco, and hope to one day get the chance to develop new stories with him in them.

Yes! First, I have to hype myself into the writing mood. Because even though I'll have the desire to write, I can have a confidence issue at any moment, so to prevent that I pretend I'm a badass via rap music. XD My hype music includes songs from MGK, Lil Peep (rip </3), Aesop Rock, and Gorillaz. I will vibe to the songs as I see fit until I feel totally pumped about starting my RP posts.

Once I am IN THE ZONE~, the music flavors can go just about anywhere. Sometimes I'll have some Lofi music going, most times I'm listening to my emo music because it's my main stuff, other times I might have all my Liked songs on shuffle.

I also listen to a lot of Birthday Massacre music while I write, especially when writing for my characters who are demons or vampires or some other kind of monster. For my vampire, Cain Valamir, Pins and Needles is his song:

Another that came to mind but for a different music group is my demon boi, Vazithan. Depeche Mode has a song called So Much Love, it makes me think of him (because he is a very naughty boy with hidden heart of goodness). I haven't put him in a RP yet but I've listened to the song while writing things for his character info or short stories about him:

I should make Character Playlists. That seems like a fun idea. <3 Maybe it'd help with some of my posting consistency, too, if I have vibes that match the story.

👏
GOODNESS.

My time has come.

I have whole playlists for my characters, playlists for the relationships between characters, playlists for alternate universes, etc., etc. I have a select few theme songs for each, though. Those get added to the playlists along with other music that really just gives off the vibes.

One of my characters, Russel, an android working off a human consciousness has one song that really, really fits him:
I just hear this and think: ‘Russel’

Most of the music I hear, I go through the lyrics, decide if I like the song or not, and then add or don’t add it to the playlists

Anyway, music for characters is a billion times yes

Edit: I DIDNT SEE THE REST OF THE QUESTION WIDNALNFOWA

YES— I do listen to music when writing, gets my creative juices flowing, but I don’t know about specific kinds of music. I listen to a lot of different music, lots of variety.

Also, as Diana said at the start of this, I, too base RP’s, characters, and AU’s solely off music
