"Thank you, that means a lot,"
Fliss sighed and took a small sip of the hot tea. It was warm and comforting, and most important of all, calming, which was what she needed right now.

Bailey was calming too, he always was. He was this big somewhat scary looking guy but he was so sweet and calm and patient. He always listened to her, whether it was minor complaints or big things that had affected her for years, like now. He was just such a good person and Fliss was so happy to have someone like him in her life.

"I guess sometimes it makes me feel like maybe I'm a bad person for not reaching out to her anymore, I used to for so long you know, but the fact that our relationship kind of died I think speaks more about her than it does me,"
Fliss explained, "I know it doesn't actually make me a bad person, but it's also hard not to want to have her in my life. Even if she has been distant I love her, and she has had her moments when she has come through,"

b a i l e y
"Well, I think it's natural to want to have your parents in your life, even if you don't necessarily have the best relationship with them all the time," Bailey said. He obviously couldn't speak from any form of personal experience, but he could speak from the heart, and he could express how he truly felt. So, that was what he planned to do.

"But if you don't want them in your life I think it's important that you keep in mind the fact that you don't owe them anything,"
Bailey said. "Yes, they're your parents and they gave you life and they cared for you when you were growing up. But if they've done the wrong thing and you're suffering because of it then that's no one's fault but their own and you shouldn't feel obligated to keep them around."

Bailey sighed through his nose, and then reached over to tuck a strand of Felicity's hair behind her ear. "But, it's all up to you in the end, and I'll support you no matter what you end up doing."

Fliss caught Bailey's hand as he tucked away some of her hair. She leaned into the touch and closed her eyes for just a moment as she reflected over what he had said. It was things she kind of knew but it was nice to be reminded. She couldn't ever claim that her mother was some terrible person. But she had let her down in life and that was on her not on Fliss.

Gently she moved Bailey's hand and gave it a little kiss, "Thank you, I'm not really sure what to do about it all, I never am. She said she'd call tomorrow, but we'll see. At least it's easier when I have you," She smiled softly at him and leaned in to give him a little kiss.

They finished their tea together and by the time they put away their cups Fliss was back in the good mood she had been in before. She didn't know if her mother would call tomorrow, in all honesty, she expected she wouldn't. But if she did it'd be fine, she had Bailey's support and everything else would be nice and lovely. And most likely her relationship with her mother would just continue on as usual.

Elliot wasn't sure how it had happened, but somehow, he had come home late again that night.

This time, he was only about half an hour late but he still felt incredibly guilty, because he had promised his wife he would try to stop this from happening and clearly he had failed at that. He had tried to work the actors extra hard that day, but they had really needed to perfect a particularly difficult scene and therefore he couldn't avoid having to stay back for a while.

Elliot entered the house half an hour after he said he would be home and took off his shoes at the door. Then, he went into the living room to kiss his children and say hello to them. And then, he went into the kitchen and found his wife.

"...I'm really sorry,"
he said sincerely. "The kid actors couldn't get their lines right but it was a really important scene so we had to work on it ..."

Elliot was late again and he of course came home with an apology and an excuse that honestly wasn't terrible. It was work, it was necessary and this time Matilda didn't really have anything extra that stressed her out that made it hard. There were no intricate orders at work that needed to be delivered and she kept fairly good track on the chores.

But she missed her husband.

"Whatever Elliot, I get that work is important," she said kind of harshly, and put away the final pot she had scrubbed a little to hard, it made a clashing sound as it made contact with the other pots and pans, "but don't bother apologizing, it stops meaning anything when I hear it almost every day. There's food in the fridge if you want it, I didn't bother waiting with calling to dinner because I didn't know when you'd be home,"

Elliot deflated a little when Matilda snapped at him as she did. He knew he deserved it, though. Even if he hadn't been that late that night, he was late too frequently for this to just be an occasional thing anymore, and of course it was hurting Matilda and their relationship.

Elliot was upset, because he had thought he would be able to balance his home life and his career equally. But he knew that he was foolish to think that. Something had to give, and unfortunately that had ended up being his home life, even if just a little.

Which was completely unacceptable. Who was he to put his career before his wife and child? He felt sick thinking about it.

Elliot stepped forward. He normally would have wrapped Matilda in a hug, but she was genuinely mad at him, so all he could do was place a hand on the small of her back. "I'm sorry."

m a t i l d a

"I know that you're sorry Elliot."
Matilda said, sounding frustrated but she didn't move away from his touch. She had just told him not to apologize, and he did it again and it just added to why she didn't want to hear it anymore "I know that. I know you don't want to come home late and I know you don't mean to,"

Matilda didn't even doubt for a second that Elliot didn't want to come home late as often as he did now, because he was a fantastic husband and the kindest person and she loved him and he loved her. She almost felt a little bad for being angry now, but it was starting to repeat itself too many times.

"But it doesn't change anything and I don't want your apologies to stop meaning anything,"
She said, because she was seriously scared of that, that this would affect them so badly some things just wouldn't be the same anymore, suddenly she felt tears burn in her eyes and when she spoke again her voice broke a little, "I just don't know what to do with all of this. I know you'll be less busy once the show is done, but what is to say that it won't be the same with the next one, you'll get more big offers now. And I'm really so happy for you, but I just don't know how it's going to affect our family,"

Elliot didn't want his apologies to stop meaning things, either. He hadn't really thought how this whole thing would affect them in the future, either. He had had it in his head that their problems would be resolved when the show was over, but ... if things kept going how they were going now, there was a possibility that they couldn't recover from what was going on.

"I ... I promise, Tilly, this isn't going to affect our family in the long run,"
Elliot murmured. Since she hadn't rejected his touch, he stood behind her and rubbed her biceps a little as he spoke. "I'll try my absolute best to not be late again. I'll leave them with the assistant director if I have to, I'll come home when I should come home every night. I might slip up, I'm human, but I promise you, I won't be consistently late anymore."

Elliot's voice cracked and he was on the verge of tears. "I never meant to do this to you, to us, to the kids. I should have anticipated how much time this would take before I agreed to direct. Maybe ... maybe I wasn't ready for such a big production."

m a t i l d a

"You were ready for this Elliot. This production is going to be great and I can't wait to see it,"
Tilly said, doing her best not to let the tears overflow, once again Elliot was proving how sweet he was, saying how he'd go out of the way to make sure this wouldn't happen, doubting his own abilities before getting angry, "It's your job and I don't ever want to prevent you from doing that. Especially since you love it." If Elliot got another big opportunity like this she wanted him to take it. But she just wanted him to still be able to manage his time properly.

"But I love my job too, and you being late affects it, you being busy all the time affects it. And the fact that I don't know when you'll be home is really stressful as well. If I just knew you'll always be home one hour later from now on then that'd be better than it sometimes being half an hour, sometimes one, sometimes not at all and sometimes even two."

Really the unpredictability of it all was one of the worst things, she couldn't even tell the kids when their dad would be home because she just didn't know. It was frustrating and it made planning things impossible.

"You've said you won't be late again before. So I don't see why I should view this time any differently,"

Elliot's heart was aching and he felt like he was about to burst into tears at any moment. He didn't know what he could do to make things better, or what he could say to help Matilda understand how much he wanted to make things better. He was terrified that he had damaged things beyond the point of reparation. If he had done that, if he had ruined his marriage and his relationship with his family ... he would never forgive himself.

"Because I understand how much this has been hurting you, and Ruby and Dakota," Elliot pleaded. "It was really fucking shitty and really fucking selfish of me to think that I could just be late all the time and you wouldn't be affected. I knew it would affect your work and your sleep and stuff, and I always tried to help around the house more than usual to make up for that. But I never thought about how this was damaging our relationship."

Elliot felt like a piece of shit. He felt like a failure and a bad husband and a bad father. He felt like his beautiful and amazing and perfect wife deserved so much better than him. She deserved someone who could be consistent and whose career didn't impact their lives in such a detrimental way.

"I love you so much, Matilda, I love Ruby and Dakota and I love everything that we have together. I never meant to jeopardise what we have."

Matilda listened to Elliot carefully and completely quiet. The regret in his voice was so obvious, but it was different than the other times he had apologized from coming home late. Then it was for that specific instance, now it was more for all of the times he had come home late and that was different. And also what Matilda kind of wanted, and maybe needed to hear.

Finally, she turned and wrapped her arms around Elliot. As she couldn't hold it in anymore she let out a small sniffle, "I know you didn't mean to. And I don't think you really have jeopardized what we have... We just haven't worked things out properly. We should have sat down and figured things out the moment you got busier"

She snuggled his chest a little, and kind of wished she had accepted his affection to begin with, because it never failed to make her feel better, "I just miss you and the kids do too, I can tell, so we just got to actually resolve things and not just let it keep on happening. Then everything will be fine. Because we love each other."

Letha was super excited. Today she had dance, and Allison was teaching them instead of their regular teacher, because she was sick. Letha didn't like that their regular teacher was sick but she did like that her awesome and lovely cousin was going to be in charge.

Letha, dressed in her little leotard and stockings with a thin, floaty pink skirt on top, pranced into the dance studio and up to her cousin, who she immediately wrapped into a cute little hug. She loved Allison so much, and she loved spending time with her, it was always so much fun.

"Hi, Allison!" Letha chirped, stepping back and bouncing on the tips of her toes. "What are we doing today? I asked Daddy when he told me you were teaching but he didn't tell me because he said he didn't know."

"Hello!"
Allison said happily and embraced her little cousin, "We're probably just going to do the normal stuff, I don't want your teacher getting mad at me for changing everything up," she joked.

Allison absolutely adored teaching the younger dance classes when she got the chance. They were all so precious and adorable and it always made her look back to when she was younger. But what was especially lovely was when she got thechance to do something as fun as teach Allison's class. When she had been asked to take over for the original teacher she had jumped at the chance. She, of course, didn't have too much freedom with what to do with the class, they had a planned out lesson from their teacher and the choreography they worked on but still, it was great fun to see Letha progress.

She let her cousin go so they could get the class started. They gathered in a little circle on the ground and had a rolecall to make sure everyone was there. Allison introduced herself to those who didn't know her, she told them she was Allison's cousin, that she also danced but in one of the older groups and that she was filling in for their teacher who felt a little under the weather.

Then the group moved on to warm-ups, she didn't know the groups routines, but she asked them how much of every exercise they normally did and they did sit ups and push ups as well as some stretching to the beat of the music. While the girls were getting a little older and thus a little better at what they were doing the level at which they were doing things was still a little varied. Some were obviously newer to dance while some had clearly done it for a while, like Letha.

"Okay!" Allison clapped her hands, "let's drink some water and all lineup, I want us to practice some movies," The girls followed instruction and soon they were all scattered about in the room, facing the mirror, "We'll start simple, pas de bourree, do we know how to do them?" She asked but still showed the move anyway, "Okay I'll count and you all follow with the beat,"

Letha was positively beaming and bouncing with delight as they got the lesson started. She made sure to choose a spot close to Allison, since she just loved her cousin so so much and always wanted to be close when they were in the same room. Her friend Millie stood beside her, and the two little girls exchanged excited looks.

Letha dutifully performed the move Allison instructed them all to perform, a big smile on her face as she did so. She wasn't watching the other girls in the room, so she didn't know this, but she was doing a lot better than the other students. This was because Letha, when she was at home, spent hours and hours and hours practicing. Most of her spare time was spent rehearsing dance moves in her bedroom or in the games room or anywhere where she had an audience. Letha loved dance, it was one of her greatest passions, and she wished she could do it forever.

But because not all of the other girls cared about dance as much, that meant that they were not as practiced as Letha and therefore made more mistakes. One such mistake was done by Millie, who moved in the wrong direction and thus collided with Letha. Letha gasped and went flying to the ground, and Millie tripped, too.

Millie landed, with the full weight of her body, on Letha's thin forearm, and everyone in the room could hear something break. And then Letha started to cry.

"Letha, Oh my god!"
Allison called out the moment both girls made contact with the ground. It wasn't that she didn't care about the other girl, but that she did think she heard a breaking sound and only one of the two girls were crying and that was her sweet little baby cousin.

She hurried over to the two girls. Millie was apologizing profusely while Letha cried. Clearly only one of the girls had gotten hurt. Allison had no idea what to do, she had held classes plenty of times but nothing like this had ever happened. She was just praying that she had hear wrong and Letha's arm wasn't broken.

"Letha," Allison helped Letha sit up, she gently grabbed her arm to asses it, it was already turning a sickening purple hue, "Letha, are you okay? Can you move your arm and hand?" she had no idea if that was a good question but that is what her Daddy would ask when she was younger and hurt her arms really bad, to check if she had broken them or not.

l e t h a
Letha let out an agonised cry when Allison touched her arm. "Ow ow ow ow ow ow!!!!!!!" she wailed, tears streaming down her face. God, this hurt so much. It was absolutely the most painful thing Letha had ever witnessed. She remembered how Harper had been when he had broken his arm at the pool not that long ago, and how he had reacted in a similar way to how she was reacting in that moment.

That just made Letha even more scared, because she didn't want her arm to be broken. If it was broken, it would hurt so much for so long, and she wouldn't be able to dance or play sport or roughhouse with her siblings until it got better. Letha didn't want to be in that position, it sounded absolutely terrible.

"Noooo,"
Letha whined. The other little girls in the class were watching on with pure horror in their eyes. "It hurts, Allison, it hurts really bad."

a l l i s o n

Letha's pained shrieks were absolutely terrifying for Allison. She really didn't know what to do, she had held classes were girls had twisted an ankle or gotten bruised but never a broken bone. At least it was someone whose parent's she could get a hold of easily though, "O-okay Letha, I think I'm going to call one of your daddies hang on,"

She let her cousin go and hurried over to her phone, she decided to dial Samuel's number, she wasn't entirely sure about Roman's current work schedule but she knew that the school day was over so he'd be able to answer. She dialled and Samuel's answer came fairly quickly "Hey Allison is everything--"

"Uncle Sammy, I think Letha's arm is broken"
"What?!"
"She fell during practice I don't know what to do," the panic was showing through her voice quite clearly,
"Shit okay, You have the other girls to keep track of right? Roman and I'll be right over. Is it bad?"
"I-I don't know,"
"Is any bone showing,"
"Oh god no, I would have called an ambulance but she's in a lot of pain,"
"Okay just make sure she doesn't move her arm too much, we'll be right there, tell Letha we'll be right there, I'm gonna hang up while we drive but we're on our way,"
"Okay... Okay, bye,"

Allison hung up, took a deep breath and went back to Letha, she put a hand on her back and rubbed it gently in n attempt to soothe her, "Your daddies will come to get you, kay? It'll be fine, but you need to keep your arm really still, can you do that?"

l e t h a
Letha whimpered but nodded, her arm still in excruciating pain. It hurt so much. Millie kept apologising and a lot of the other girls were crying but Letha couldn't concentrate on anything but the hurt in her arm. She just knew it was broken, and that just made her even more miserable.

Letha wasn't sure how much time had passed, but soon the door opened and both of her daddies came in. By this time Letha had been moved to sit up against the wall and she was cradling her arm to her chest. Daddy came rushing over and knelt at her side, a look of worry on his face.

"It's okay, sweetie, it's okay, we're going to help you,"
he murmured. He looked up at Papa. "Can you carry her out to the car? We need to get her to the hospital."

a l l i s o n

It felt like ages until Samuel and Roman finally arrived. Allison tried to stay calm for all the other girls as they waited but it was hard. Letha was so clearly in pain and all the other girls were absolutely terrified and they didn't even have their regular teacher there. But finally Samuel and Roman came hurrying in.

"Yeah, I'll carry her,"
Samuel hurried over and carefully picked Letha up, "It'll be fine sweetie, don't worry," he said gently, despite the little girl's clear pain. Then he turned to Allison as well, "Thank you Allison... Do you want to come with us? We've got space in the car,"

Allison really wanted to say yes so she could make sure her sweet little cousin would be okay, but she simply couldn't, "No I gotta stay with the rest of the girls," She then turned more towards Letha, "It'll be alright, your daddies will take care of you," she said softly and then Samuel and Roman said goodbye and hurried off, there was no time to waste when their little girl was hurt.

After they left Allison was quiet for a moment, not sure what to do with the rest of the class, until she finally turned and addressed the class. She asked them what they wanted to do, some didn't want to continue some felt like they could. So she let the scared girls sit aside and she continued the class. It was hard when knowing her little cousin was hurt, but she couldn't let it affect the girls who were there to learn either.

Letha was taken to hospital, where the nurses and doctors performed the same procedure on her as they had done for Harper when he had broken his own arm. She was put in a cast and given instructions on how to make sure that her arm healed up properly. And then she was let free and her daddies took her home.

She was still exhausted when they arrived, so Daddy pumped up some cushions on her bed and set her up with a laptop so she could watch a movie. He also brought her a glass of chocolate milk and a plate of raspberry cookies he had made the day before, so she could be as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

"Thank you, Daddy," Letha mumbled, obviously very tired.

"You're welcome, honey. Is there anything else we can do for you?"

"Can ... Can you ask Allison to come over?"
