Welcome to the OOC thread for this Devil Survivor 2 RP. I'll introduce myself again. Blighted Agent, at your service. As the GM for this RP, I hold final authority over everything, but will most of all consistently apply myself to delivering the best RP experience possible.

The Interest Check thread already detailed a lot of things necessary for the RP. So as not to repeat myself too much, I've added a link below for your convenience, but I'll also be adding the TL;DR here.

a. The RP is based on the Devil Survivor 2 game for Nintendo DS, not its sequel/remake nor the anime.
b. RP will strive to include original dialogue and scenes, not just a replay of the game.
c. We aim to complete a single in-RP day for each RP, culminating in 8 days (assuming things don't go off the rails).
d. The series prominently features supernatural, mythological, religious entities from most if not all mythologies/stories/religions.
e. Character death is possible
f. The setting is Japanese and the RP takes place in Japan.
g. Participants would make their own OCs as long as they fit the setting.
h. Aside from their OCs, participants will pilot a partner demon to be decided later.
i. Variable post length and posting rates to try and suit everybody's needs.

The IC will be created when characters are ready and we have talked over different issues and come to agreements on them. The Character Index will be created when sheets are ready to be posted; before you do, please send a rough draft/overview of your character via PM for me to eyeball if there's anything that needs to be immediately addressed.

Things to know for characters starting out:

0. Characters in general are divided into Civillians and JP's/ex-JP's. They're all kind of self-explanatory.The former have never had any sort of contact with the supernatural in a meaningful way, while the latter have. The latter start out as 'stronger' but will also naturally be put into harm's way more directly and frequently and earlier.
1. Your character starts out with no Skills and all-neutral Affinity UNLESS they're JP's or ex-JP's, in which case we go over it on a case by case basis, leaning more towards 1 command and 1 passive skill, and up to 2 strong Affinity. This can and will change over time.
2. Stats indicate generalities and are not absolutes regarding combat prowess even if they give important information and dictate certain elements. Your balance must be 0 at this point in time (even for JP's/ex-JP's characters), and civillians cannot add more than one symbol per stat at this time (JP's/ex-JP's can add up to 2 in 1 category).
3. Starting partners have restrictions. The full list of Demons that may be partners is here. From this list, JP's/ex-JP's may choose any demon up to level 20, and civillians may choose any demon up to level 10.
4. Demons have predefined Stats, Skills and Affinity in the game, as seen in their links in the above list. For this RP, however, your partners can be customized to your liking (within reason). Only Racial Skill need still line up. From this list, starting partners of civillians may have up to 1 Command and 1 Passive with stat requirements at 8 or below; JP's/ex-JP's partners may have up to 2 of each with stat requirements at 12 or below.
5. Starting partners cannot have Enhanced Racial Skills. Full list here.
6. Starting partners cannot have Affinity of Absorb or Reflect, and only JP's/ex-JP's can have Null (at the cost of one Weak for each Null). Only up to 2 Affinity can be Strong without needing a Weak to compensate.

Sounds like a plan. She did well last time I played.

For both you and Dawn, I wanted to elaborate a bit on what I'd planned for combat segments. Eventually I'll post the finalized version in the first post so everyone can see, but for the most part, I'd imagined that our descriptions and such would be written out, with 'regular' actions (punching, kicking, moving from side to side, the works) allowing for fluidity/dynamism.

Command and Racial Skills and(like hasohappa, deathbound; ghostly wounds, bind, etc) on the other hand would be announced (eg, x would unleash hasohappa after moving back; y would use its Devil Speed to cross the courtyard and strike). Passive/Auto Skills woud have an overall effect on your fighting capabilities and would be allowed to justify certain actions (eg, z manages to circle around the enemy thanks to the speed boost from Tailwind).

The only thing I'm unsure of is how to translate Extra Turns from the game. Even if it's rather simple/dumb, my current plan was to just allow you to do an extra combat action in any turn/post where it is determined that your character has that effect active. We could just ignore the concept outright, althought this does mean a few skills become unusable.

Stats would be used to determine the difficulty of certain encounters; if your demon is ---magic, trying to fight a +++magic one is likely a poor idea, and it would signal how much leniency or strictness you could expect if trying to confront said enemy.

If either of you would like to give some input on this, feel free! We can try to reach a compromise.

I.e. if your last action puts you in such a spot that it gives you an opening for another attack based on your opponent's reaction or something like that. Sorta seems just like fluidity of combat, but it's hard to translate "you can act again" into a sort of "real world" application.

People don't take turns hitting each other irl, aha.

Well said. We may have to burn that bridge when we finally have to cross it. In the meantime I like the idea of it having to do with positioning and the like.
 
I should have an opportunity to start working on my character tomorrow! I already have a face, so I just need to give it a story. I wanna go for a sort of sober drunk, but not too drunk. Fashionably under the influence, if you will.

Not sure if I wanna make him JP's or ex-JP's either. Gotta brush up on my knowledge about them too.

  • Personality: Tomi is a very laid back person, opting to not get involved with the affairs of others. He'll help someone out in a pinch, but after that, it's time to go their separate ways. Interaction beyond that point is just formality in his eyes. Lacking an appreciation for both the fine and ordinary things in life, Tomi simply lives. As long as trouble doesn't come his way, he's content. Though some who know him might coin him as being strong, Tomi views himself as quite the opposite. His near reclusive lifestyle isn't one he's entirely proud to lead. It's simply one he feels he must.

    Likes:
    • The mellow feeling of smoking a cigarette on a night that doesn't quite know if it wants to be warm or cold.
    • His partner, Moh Shuvuu, the only being with which he regularly interacts.
    • Though detached, he does value a good sense of justice — finds it inspiring.

    History: Tomi grew up to a single mother, never knowing of the father his mother teared up too much to speak of, and never wanting to know. His mother left him wanting for nothing, the family being none too poor and none too rich. His young life was spent, almost in its entirety, with all of the same friends, attending all of the same friends, and going home to the same house. It was, in his eyes, an ideal life. A missing parent didn't matter, if the one that remained love you enough for both.

    His grades never demonstrated academic stride, but this was more laziness as opposed to a lack of intellect. His genius was more in the analytical, the observant. He loved watching people, seeing their reactions to the various situations he could witness from a park bench. This was precisely how he met the woman that would be his future wife, Karen Arata. With eyes of silver, and locks of gold that weren't such a common sight in Japan, he fell in love almost instantly. From a mere prospect of his observation, to his best friend, the two were inseparable.

    Were is the key word there. On the day of his birthday, an apparition like which he'd only seen in movies attacked the pair in their home. Tom would surely have died, were it not for the abrupt activation of an app on his phone. He accepted the offer to continue living without hesitation, hoping to save his wife. With the power granted him by this mysterious app, and a being that appeared both human and inhuman, he managed to fight off the assailant. Unfortunately, his efforts were too late. Karen didn't survive.

    It wasn't long after the attack before an organization that went by the name JP's came into contact with him, after having heard about his reports of the attack. The police were in disbelief over his statements, but these JP's fellows seemed to understand the tragedy he'd been through. Though the incident left him a shell of the man he once was, he agreed to join them almost before the offer completely left their lips.

    His skills of observation came in handy when analyzing and making sense of what data they had, and his math skills seemed not to suffer from all the high school naps. He soon became a rather valuable member, being somewhat close to Makoto and Hotsuin themselves. He was happy with what he was doing, if only for a time. As time passed, their work seemed less and less about saving people and became more and more concerned with where the demons were actually originating from. While Tomi knew this was important to figure out, he also felt there was more to JP's than he'd initially been told.

    Deciding that fueling a conspiracy wasn't in his interests, Tomi left JP's. Though standard policy to have one's phone confiscated when they leave, Hotsuin allowed Tomi to be an exception to the rule — a parting gift for protection, should he need it. His only request was that he keep the existence of demons under wraps. Tomi hesitantly agreed, stating that interacting with others enough to tell them anything they'd believe was outside of his plans.

    It was shortly afterwards that he found a job as a stocker. Tomi now lives his days out in an apartment with Moe.

If not, while not the original plan we can try and get it done one-on-one.
 
Maybe try tackling it from a different angle if that's the case?
