Iwaku Ratings (and Discord roleplays)

It was because we enjoy writing, we enjoy role playing, and the community aspect.
That's true :3 I remember coming here from Fictionpress where it's basically bare bone. I was thrilled that I could actually justify my text here. :"D

I agree with Greenie on this. She was the one who scooped me up from one of those barren Fictionpress forums ( They are even barrener now mostly).

I never realized the rating system mattered that much to people ^^'. I mean, I love it and think it's cool, but I honestly didn't think it mattered because they weren't a huge part of the site for me, it was the community and roleplays.

And nor did I mind its change, in fact I applauded it. I like seeing the little Discord emojis, it's cute *insert discord heart here* I only wish we could have a sparkle one xD because sparkles make everything better. Sparkle up everything! Then again, these new ones are just enough sparkle for me. I just wanted to put in my positive comment too (b~_^)b

I really wish there was a way to see what post gets what rating. I have my notifs turned off so they don't explode from posting in groups and stuff like this but like, when I see the rating stats on my page I wanna see what post got what. Is there a way to do that??

Account > Ratings Received?

That shows overall ratings achieved, but no, once you had an old rating on a post it's now a sort of 'ghost rating' you gave so it won't show you the actual rating for whatever post. And I think that's just a part of the site now, because there's no way to show it back due to the nature of the ratings bar. It's only going to show what is available.

I think they were asking about looking at ratings received in general?

In any case, I am able to see old ratings o.0 not sure if this is a bug, permissions, or a feature.

Huh, that must be on your activities page, so there's a log somewhere of it. Since that also took place before the ratings cut, it probably survived, so maybe check there. I'd forgotten those were accessible. I know that your general ratings are available on your profile page.

>.> I'd still love my bandaid. Just saying.

too many assumptions make a mess eh? xD I honestly not using much of those ratings, besides when I feel playful... I never take it serious.

Change is fine. The responses in this thread indicate that people are more upset because this solution makes them feel like they were treated like children. When people abuse the system, they should absolutely be punished for it. Key word "they". This is why we have a security team and a report option, so that individuals get punished for individual transgressions and not the whole group. The solution to a few jerkholes acting up shouldn't be to just start ripping away parts of the site. It's reactionary and frankly immature.

I really hope this isn't a sign of what to expect with future complaints.
Late as hell reply, and I snipped off the info that would notify Red Thunder because I know I would be mildly irritated with a response to a two week old post, but it's a thing I felt worth responding to for any interested parties to see.

One thing that needs to be understood is that there are many degrees of abuse, many of which do not violate our site rules but still cause annoyance. A couple passive-aggressive ratings here and there aren't rule breaking abuse of the system, that's just being a butthead, which is completely allowed. Security has far too much actually important work to do to bother trying to police that sort of abuse of the ratings. We already handle things like mass spite ratings, stuff that actually breaks rules, but anything less than that or cases where ratings are just a small piece of a bigger harassment case just isn't really worth the time and effort on the part of Security.

The instances of people being asses with the ratings that caused the most confusion and angst were the ones that existed in that broad spectrum of "you're being a dick but not breaking any rules." Since we are not and don't want to be in the business of stamping out all negativity, using Security was simply not an option to solve the problems presented by the old ratings. The viable options were do nothing and let things remain as they were, or remove the most egregious ratings to remove the problem. We obviously opted for the latter.

You're all welcome to continue disagreeing and voicing that disagreement, I just wanted to clear up the misconception regarding Security's role and what sort of abuse was actually at issue.
