[glow=gold]ALL BEGAN WITH A MERE LETTER.[/glow][glow=gold][/glow][glow=gold][/glow][glow=gold][/glow][glow=gold]

SIGNED BY BLOOD - LOVED AND DESPISED - IN LANDS SLOWLY DECOMPOSED.[/glow]

[glow=gold]G[/glow]ifted of the masses,

I write to you with hope and honour. For I offer you an extraordinary opportunity in these dire and smoldering times.

It is no secret to anyone that warmongering between our two great nations has left our once beautiful continent of Labém left in disdain and ruin. Few places remain fertile. Fewer relationships between towns and minor cities lay true, and fewer roads lay plundered. Many civilizations can by supported by Labém's land no longer, and it is our collective doing, whether we have the strength to reject such an idea or not.

But, I come to write to you, that all is not yet lost. You, dear reader, have been selected to join a 120-person crew - all from nations far and wide - for your significant talents.

As of my signing of a peace treaty four months and five days ago, Grand King Rhyzen of Kelda and I have made careful plans to experiment something never truly attempted before. We will cross the forbidden seas to the West, for we now know a continent - unknown, empty, and surely fertile - awaits our careful examination.

We know people will think of such a journey across the forbidden seas as suicide. But, wherever you may be from, I beg of you to lend me your trust. Many resources, skilled personnel, and months of extremely hard work have gone into ensuring this journey will not end in disaster.

With the help of our people combined, our ship will cut through the stormy, infested seas come the following week; the uncharted lands beyond will torment us no longer. Many have thought those stormy seas suicide, but with the old blood and each other's hands as our guide, we have no choice but to overcome such a treacherous journey.

For the safety and reassurance that our mission succeeds to its fullest potential, we strictly forbid chosen men and women attempting to inform others about this journey. Though we know the journey will be a success, we know little of the continent that awaits us on the other side, other than it is large enough for many more civilizations to come.

Additionally, for the safety of everyone, the twenty selected Rewriters of our glorious crew will be placed in the lower levels of our ship to be carefully contained and guarded until we reach our destination. Any fellow Abbelestians, despite our clouded past with such powers, are now emplored to treat Rewriters with mutual respect, and as equals, so that we may succeed alongside the graceful and glorious people of Kelda.

It would be a lie for me to say that there will not be risks. It would be a bigger lie for me to assume that everything will go flawlessly. And I understand some will be infuriated to be under my own rule, above everything. But, we can either attempt to build something new and wonderful for all of Labém to soon cross over to, or we can die in our land - diseased by our mistakes - with a whimper, struggling to survive each coming day.

A separate document will soon be delivered to you by a private messenger, containing the whereabouts and time of the ship's departure. Whilst we implore you to consider this opportunity, inform the messenger should you not wish to partake on our mission to revive our wonderful humankind.

Should you accept, may nature as our jury be kind and forgiving. And may the sun, brilliant and eternal, forever shine on our new lands; your name a legend, and an eternal pillar of our many communities to come.

Signed by her Majesty, Lady Kyla of Abbelest
-Letter co-authorized by Prince Shyré Rhyzen of Kelda

~ BLOOD BEYOND WAVES ~

LIKE WHAT YOU SEE? WELCOME!

Greetings, and a warm welcome to ARGENT, an advanced-level dark fantasy roleplay focused around themes of exploration, combat, and tough moral choices that will - hopefully - shape and change your character throughout the course of the RP.

Selected amidst 120 others, informed by the letter above that seemed to mysteriously 'appear' in your bag, pocket, or bedside table one day, your character will be abroad one of the largest and most elegant ships ever built in history, course charted to an unknown continent, the leader of this ship - Lady Kyla of Abbelest - seeking to begin making such a continent inhabitable to that cities and towns may one day flourish. Your characters motivations for agreeing to such an arrangement - whether they believe such a wild idea could work or not - is completely up to you.

The ship leaves behind the lands of Labém in their wake; a continent damaged and plagued by years of war and discord between two major civilizations: [glow=blue]KELDA[/glow] and [glow=orange]ABBELEST[/glow]. Ever since the bizarre, blood-bound arts and classes of Rewrition was passed onto humans many centuries ago, people have fragmented opinions about the power's existence. Abbelest believes the power to be sacred and not meant to be wielded by mere humans, exiling any 'Rewriters' within their walls, whilst the Keldians have always believed humankind to be the 'chosen ones' of unknown Gods, and accept the power amidst their people with honor and grace.

However, in recent years, both the Keldians and Abbelestians began to realize the scope of their destruction forged from their disagreements would soon leave nothing left of Labém. Forests burn; lands become infertile. Bandits and madmen rule the abandoned. Other minor civilizations - once forced into choosing sides in the war - swiftly became hollow shells of their previous glory in the crossfire.

I will be revealing more and more information as time goes on, but this is merely an interest check to see the amount who'd be interested in RP'ing in this sort of environment. I'm looking for roughly 4 players minimum, or 8 players maximum, and once I've got a good amount of interest, I'll begin working on an OOC that neatly compiles all the information you'll need to know about the world of ARGENT.

Character diversity is highly encouraged, as whilst Kelda/Abbelest are the two largest kingdoms within the world of ARGENT, many more minor cities, towns, and hamlets (which I'll soon compile into a list; players may also make their own if they wish) exist to choose from.

Additionally, whilst the main story of the RP is centered around building a new home and exploring a new continent, don't expect to be joining an RP all about those two things. I have a lot of twists, turns, and weird, wonderful, or just generally horrible places for your characters to bump into, discover, or maybe eventually do a bit of combat. I want PC's to have conflicts and relationships with each other, because - as you can imagine - having a ship full of a mix of cultures that have only recently made peace after a ferocious war is rather intense. Expect the survival of your characters to be a challenge in a gritty, unpredictable, and dangerous foreign environment whilst the story and how things happen is shaped by your PC's.

So, please! Express interest, ask questions, or just tell me I'm generally terrible! I'm looking forward to getting this off the ground, and create an RP where writers can express and explore their creative writing, and be immersed/engaged in a mysterious, unknown environment.

-Your GM, Jakers

REWRITION - AN OVERVIEW

And they said,
' O, stark humanity
hear our [glow=white]requiem[/glow].
The old blood will now guide you
it will aid life's fragility.
May such terrible gifts
lead you to glory or famine.'

-TOME OF THE OLD LORDS, PG. II.3

mDgyaec.jpg

Rewrition is mysterious, rare art that lies within the blood of certain individuals. At the earliest stages of life, when humanity was said to be struggling to flourish, it's said unseen Gods or forces above bestowed twelve 'chosen humans' with control over the 'laws' and 'crucial properties' that allow humanity to successfully survive.

However, the powers soon - evidently - weren't limited to the first twelve humans. Rewriters, whilst they have usually been recorded to live up to three times as long as regular humans depending on the 'purity' of their blood, can also pass down their otherwordly blood to other children. When a Rewriter breeds with a non-Rewriter, the chances of the infant's survival is around 15%, but this child will inherit the blood of the Rewriter of the couple around 80% of the time.

Despite there being 12 'types' of Rewrition, the potency and the way a Rewriter uses their powers greatly varies, meaning that even if two Rewriters have the same time type of Rewrition, their otherwordly powers won't actually function in a similar manner in most cases.

In rare cases - though doing so is considered a crime of the highest order - a mundane human can also drink the blood of another Rewriter - or inject it into their body - in order to gain their powers. The first time this happened was long ago, when the first Rewriter - The Solar Mother - was murdered, and her corpse was harvested in a gruesome manner.

Gaining Rewrition in this manner, however, is not always successful, and is an extremely risky process that can cause painful deaths or diseases if the blood is not 'compatible'. Additionally, a Rewriter having two types of power is completely unheard of, however, and results in a gruesome death that seems to slowly cause the body crumble into a smoky, bloody powder from the inside out.

Whilst I don't which for every character to be a Rewriter, I can understand it'll probably be highly sought after. Bear in mind, however, that Rewriter PC's will be equally important as other PC's, and they will commonly be mistreated and treated as 'slaves' or 'scum' by many (despite the orders of Lady Kyla). Additionally, Rewriters usually have weak blood and weak bodies as a result of their otherworldly blood, and over-using their powers can cause a painful death by bleeding smoky, deep-red blood from all orifices.

REWRITION - TYPES 1-12

For now, each type of Rewrition will have a brief overview. Additionally, the many types of Rewrition can be used in a variety of different ways; I'm just giving examples of what the powers could be used for. When the OOC comes, they will be covered in much more detail. If you'd like to know more about a type in particular, please let me know!

SOLAR signifies our sun; our beginning. Should the flickers of sunlight ever truly fade, the lives of all will flicker out, like a dying flame caught in the breeze.

Rewriters of SOLAR have control of the sun's warmth, and vary in how they utilize it. Some may amplify rays of sunlight to cause overpowering rays of sunlight to completely scorch an area, whilst some may be able to remove the effects of the sun from an area for an amount of time, causing the heat of an area to soon be lost and drop to lethally low temperatures.

BLOOD pumps around live bodies constantly, fueling us. Empowering us. And in the bodies of few, it allows the sacred powers of Rewrition to be possible.

Rewriters of BLOOD are ones to be feared, as they can alter the flow of blood in one's body to completely turn against them. However, they can also do things such as swiftly clot wounds, or perform things such as blood transfers quickly and effortlessly. They are able to control the blood of Rewriters, and, as such, are a type of Rewriter mostly shunned by most due to the betrayal the first Rewriter of Blood performed.

BREATH gives us energy and the ability to move our complex bodies, and is a form of invisible sustenance many forget they're doing for most of their lives.

Rewriters of BREATH, simply put, are able to alter how breathable the air is in an area. This can result in suffocating those in an area due to a lack of breathable air, or they may be able to make an area that is otherwise unbreathable - such as underwater - breathable.

GRAVITY is the order and control that keeps the world together. Without it, chaos would reign, and none would be in control of their actions.

Rewriters of GRAVITY are able to change the flow of gravity in area completely, causing people to float away or be pinned to the ground. They may also change the 'center of gravity', allowing bizarre feats such as walking sideways up walls or up ceilings. It should be noted that when one changes the gravity in an area, it is only for that area, and not for the entire world.

GROWTH allows us and many lifeforms to slowly expand and develop into new things entirely. It allows us to advance to new stages in life, and brings us sustenance.

Rewriters of GROWTH vary greatly in what they can do, and in general, this form of Rewrition is very broad. For example, some may be able to 'regrow' the flesh around a target, allowing for rapid healing. Some may be able to greatly increase the speed at which plants grow, or perhaps even the speed a human being grows, resulting in enhanced aging. Some are even able to cause organisms to grow in unnatural ways, resulting in 'mutations' that would otherwise be impossible to obtain through genetics.

LIGHT, though few have survived without it, allows us to see and understand the things and people around us. It also brings us colour, which in the form of arts and aesthetics, brings many happiness and calm.

Rewriters of LIGHT can alter the concentration of - well, light - in an area, making things appear brighter or darker, and generally creating visual tricks that can either aid or confuse an individual. Some can also 'change' or 'remove' colours from other areas, or transfer colours onto other things, creating visual confusion.

AQUA signifies water, the lifeblood of humans, and many other organisms. Without it, life would be shriveled and non-existent.

Rewriters of AQUA have control over water, or liquids that contain water (aside from Rewriter blood, which ignores the control of an Aqua Rewriter). Some Aqua Rewriters have also been known to be able to 'suck the fluids' or vice versa from some lifeforms. Some can also collect or control water vapor in the air, allowing them to have control over things such as mist and clouds.

FRICTION, at base, allows us to keep our footing and keep control of our environment. However, it has also allowed humans to accomplish many things - such as the crucial step of discovering fire.

Rewriters of FRICTION can alter the resistance between two materials, resulting in these things either sticking together despite the mass/material of the objects, or sliding against each other. Some can also utilize friction to do things like heat objects up or create fires. A complex form of Rewrition, there are many bizarre things Friction is capable of.

SENSORY allows us to feel and gauge the world around us, and helps us keep our bodies in good shape via the harsh lessons of pain, and the calm rewards of pleasure.

Rewriters of SENSORY are generally feared for their ability to befuddled and manipulate the senses of other beings. One can make someone be in great pain despite there being nothing to hurt them, or dull the feeling from one's body completely. Some even use their powers in kind ways, however, such as dulling the pain of one's injuries, or using their power to create feelings of pleasure or comfort.

MEMORY is what allows us to keep track of events, make connections with people, and essential for us to grow as human beings.

Rewriters of MEMORY focus around manipulating the mind. Though some are able to make others forget things, some are also able to 'implant' memories in other people, or sometimes 'implant' the memory of someone's skills into others in rare cases. They can also manipulate the connections one may have with others, 'swapping' memories to make two people hate or love each other, despite them having never met.

SOUND, whilst it has been proven to not be essential, heightens our awareness and allows us to easily communicate with others. It brings us a new form of colour and life, and the way we enjoy certain sounds is a mystery to this day.

Despite being considered underwhelming by others compared to other aspects, SOUND is a very versatile type of Rewrition. One may be able to remove sound from an area, resulting in silent movements, or highly amplify the sound in an area, resulting in more precise hearing. They may also be able to redirect where sounds seem to come from, resulting in disorientation for those who hear it.

TIME is eternal; our beginning, and our end, it keeps the balance of not just human beings, but the entire world and further. The first of the twelve bestowed with such an aspect was never seen, though few claim to have seen evidence that 'Time' was the final of the twelve forms.

TIME is perhaps the most mysterious of all forms of Rewrition, and nobody has ever seen a Rewriter who has the ability to control such a powerful aspect. Many wonder if this type of Rewrition is a myth. As such, they will not be playable, though one can guess - if any were around - what one with this form of Rewrition would be able to perform.

CITIES & TOWNS OF LABÉM

Ultimately, these will be your characters' place of origin, and because your characters will be moving to a completely new, uncharted continent, you won't need to worry about things like the position of them. However, choosing your place of origin is still very important to how your characters may act, look, or treat others.

[All of the following are empty, and will be worked on tomorrow!]

QUESTIONS YOU MAY BE WONDERING

>What are the posting expectations for this RP?
In this RP, I'm looking for Advanced or higher writers. This means that spelling and grammar should be refined and with little mistakes, and the writer should feel comfortable using a wide variety of lexis and writing devices to make their IC posts come alive. I would love for posts to be at least 4 or more paragraphs, though the length is flexible depending on the situation presented to your character. But generally, if you're not fully comfortable with sinking a good amount of time into a long post that really explores your character's thoughts/feelings, or if you're not into doing 'collaborative posts' with other players, I wouldn't recommend this RP.

>How frequent am I expected to post?
A steady rate of 1 post (or more, if you're up for it) if every 2-3 days or so should serve to keep things moving nicely, and although I understand people get busy, if I feel like people are holding the group back, I may have to move things along. Obviously, exceptions can be made, and I won't just insta-kick you if you're a day late. But for the sake of keeping the story going smoothly, I'd love for things to be relatively fast. If we could get everyone's posts in so I can do a GM post every 2 days, that would be ideal! But of course, if this ever does get off the ground, I know there will be exceptions.

>May I run multiple characters?
From the start, no. I'd love for everyone to get invested and focus their writing in one character, though later in the RP, this rule may be subject for change if it's in high demand. For now, though, assume it's one character at a time only, and always will be. (If you're looking to have two chars with a strong relationship, that's what other players are for!)

>What sort of tech level is this RP set?
Whilst the tech varies amidst civilizations, most places are still in the medieval sort of era. Most civilizations have no idea how to properly utilize gunpowder properly. However, areas considered 'technologically advanced' may have started developing early firearms such as muskets, and the ship you'll all be starting in is pretty revolutionary for the time period the RP is set in. Generally, if you want to make a tinker-y character, or a character with a rather high tech piece of equipment, give me a PM and I'll see what we can work out. I want most things to still be medieval though, as firearm VS. firearm battles weren't really what I had in mind for ARGENT.

>Am I expected to create content for the RP?
Creating your own city for your character to come from, or creating locations in the new continent for your character to discover (as examples) is entirely optional. The only thing you have to create is a CS I can happily accept in order to join and be a member of the RP. I want to accommodate both those who love creating their own things, and those who like just 'being along for the ride' of a story. If you are interested in creating things, though, make sure you don't go too overboard, and don't go 'creating' things like huge twists in the plot, as that'll only make it harder for me to GM.

>Can my character die?
They can. And yes, permanently. Don't run off just yet, though! I won't be killing characters for no reason, and generally, I won't be planning to kill characters or anything like that, unless the player is 100% comfortable with it. There may be situations where your character's chances of survival seem very low, but I will always give players the opportunity/solution for their character to survive where it's possible.

>If my character dies, can I make a new one?
Certainly. Though I expect your new character to be made with as much love as your old one, and not just some sort of 'filler replacement'.

>Will you be making a Discord?
For sure. Expect to see it in the coming days if I feel the RP is racking up a good amount of interest!

>Can my CS get denied? If so, why?
It can, and if I deny it, I'll be sure to fully elaborate why this is. I can assure you that it won't be personal, and in most cases, it can probably be fixed and I'll give you a chance to do so. However (whilst trying to sound like as little of an asshole/elitist as possible), if I feel your writing level is far below my expectations, or if I feel there is no way your character can possibly fit into the setting I have in mind, you may be rejected entirely. Denying CS'es that clearly have hard work put into them is something that really pains me to do, so please, be sure in your heart of hearts that you're comfortable with the RP's writing level/expectations before putting time into a CS. If you're unsure a concept you have in mind will work in ARGENT, please, PM me your ideas and we can work something out.

>Your maximum is 8 characters; what if there's more interest?
I'll be reviewing characters based on quality after a deadline if there are more CS'es than the maximum. If 'competing against other CS'es' is an instant turn-off for you, I'm sorry it has to be like that, but in my opinion, it's the best way of doing things. If I accept too many characters, I'll have more work to do, which may cause an extremely slow RP, which can lead to the RP dying out because of me. That's the last thing I want.

If you have any interest in this RP, feel free to post past this point!

Remember that this is just an interest check, and if I can get enough interest to get this RP up and running, there will be a lot more information about the world of ARGENT that will help you get more immersed in the world, and eventually create your character!

You have without a doubt peaked my interest.^^ I'll have some questions in a few!

I'm interested, but I could probably only manage two posts a week with my current schedule. Would that be too little posting for me to participate in this?

Also, is there race diversity or just humans?

Hey, great to see your interest! Onto your questions, if you're constantly very busy, I wouldn't want to stress you out with the large/detailed posts I'm looking for. 2 posts every week could end up working out fine if everyone else goes at the same sort pace. I think it would be enough, but all in all, it's up to you. You're welcome to change your mind at any point, though I wouldn't want to accept a character if the player is going to drop very quickly, as I might've had to deny other players, and I will almost certainly be planning things for all the PC's.

As for 'races', as it stands, there is just humans, though the looks and features of a human can vary very greatly depending on where they're from (stay tuned for the 'Cities & Towns of Labém' section on the second post, which I'm currently working on!)

If you're looking to play something a lot more bizarre, however, some humans can be mutated (though they'd be infertile) by a certain form of Rewrition, causing them to have very different features to your average human being. Though these people would be very rare, it could certainly work out if a good explaination in the backstory is given as to why they'd been mutated in such a manner. But in general, no, there are no conventional 'societies' of anything but the many types of humans.

Heading to bed for now, and will be sure to complete information on all the towns when I wake up. There's still a lot of information I'm about to write, but if you have any questions in general, please be sure to ask! I understand there's still a lot of things aren't clarified at the moment, and it wasn't my original plan to post this thread so early. Alas, I'm following through with my mistake now, and adding info is how I'm gonna be doing things rather than having it all ready from the start (which is what I originally planned to do).

For those interested in Rewrition or perhaps making a Rewriter character, the 12 forms of Rewrition have now all been completed for any of those interested (check the 2nd post)! If you'd like me to elaborate further on a certain type of Rewrition (or the art of it in general), please ask!

Bear in mind that 2 Rewriters of the same type may not be able to do the same things, and the techniques one can do with a type of Rewrition varies greatly. (As an example, you might have a Growth Rewriter who's able to heal flesh, and a Growth Rewriter that's able to accelerate the growth of plants. But the two won't be able to 'learn' each other's abilities.) This means that as long as it makes sense within the context of the Rewrition type, players are allowed to make all sorts of creative ways Rewrition types can be used.

Yeah, quality posts are the reason I'd only be able to post 2-ish times a week. I only really participate in advanced RPs, so I know about how long it takes me to write a post I'm okay with. I may sit this one out, just because every character I currently have in an RP is human, and I'm looking for something a little bit different. That said, I will keep an eye on this as more information is added. I love the concept. I'll just have to see.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Id like to express my interest.

I know I'm late to the party, but still accepting?

I know I'm late to the party, but still accepting?

No worries! You're not late or anything, as the RP hasn't started yet. However, as much as I didn't want to end this idea so early, I don't think I'll be getting this RP off the ground.

The reason for this is because a pretty big change happened in my life recently, and because of it, I'm not sure if I'll be able to run this RP whilst being a player in other RP's. God knows how many days it's been, and I still haven't completed everything I wanted to in the interest check yet. I doubt I'd be able to do things like create an OOC in time, do GM posts on time, etc.

This might be disappointing to some, and I'm genuinely sorry for making an interest check that... well, never got anywhere, for those who were excited on joining. But I think it's safer for me to formally close this now, before people start doing things like creating/getting invested in characters, because that'd make it even harder for me to stop the RP.

I'll let people know if I ever reboot this idea, but I think for now at least, GM'ing isn't for me and I'll just stick to being a player. Thanks again to everyone who showed interest, and my apologies again for not actually taking this anywhere. I hope you're all able to find another RP you can enjoy.
