Premise
You live in a world where Magic, the power forged by the gods, can be used by humans. While this gift brought great bounty to the world's inhabitants, this gift was, in fact, a mistake. The Council never intended for humanity to gain this power. They only possessed it because a deviant god broke the code, infusing it into a world of his own creation. For this, the deviant god was slain, shattering into eight pieces across his creation. Now, the Council intends to corrupt the universe until nothing remains. However, the deviant god presents our hero with a hope. Your character is designated the chosen one, one able to collect his fragments, ascend to godhood, and fight the Council and save the world.

Beginning Scene
The story starts with your character suddenly waking up appearing completely different than they usually look. Their entire body has taken the form of a cute foreign girl in her mid-twenties(exact age is negotiable). Nobody recognizes you, you suddenly have lost the ability to speak, and no idea how much is temporary. Soon after, your character is approached by a strange girl who claims to understand what happened to you and how to fix it.

Format
The story follows our hero's journey to collect the 8 shards. There will be no shortage of obstacles. As the Council gains influence in your world, dangerous mystical beasts emerge, bizarre cultists conduct foreboding rituals, the environments grow treacherous, and you are stuck in the middle of it all. With only a single ally at your side, you shall be tested together.

Central Structure
Like the typical hero's journey, the hero is called to leave behind what they know to overcome trials in a world they don't, coming out changed for the experience. The idea is somewhat subverted, as the call to action is mandatory, and much of the conflict comes from within the character.

Expectations
  • Activity: Daily or faster. While you don't need to post every single day, I'd definitely appreciate at least 7 posts total over the course of a week.
  • Post Length: However long it takes to completely address the previous post and present something worthy of reaction.
  • Character Depth: I want to see a character who feels like a real person and fits thematically with the trajectory of the story.
  • Discord: I want to have contact over discord to discuss plot related stuff.
  • Writing Style: Use of internal dialogue is highly discouraged. For example, instead of "Mike thought that the idea was preposterous" I want "Mike furrowed his brow as he confirmed that he indeed heard that correctly." Show your characters thoughts through their actions rather than spelling it out directly.
  • Romance: FemaleXFemale.
  • Anime: I use anime style images for my characters and creatures, and would prefer you to follow suit.
  • Realism: Although this is a fantasy world with Gods, we are not employing anime physics.
  • Subversion: While I've presented the premise in a straightforward manner, the details get messier as the narrative progresses.

Endword

This concept is currently at the level of interest check and is not yet a fully realized concept. I wanted to gauge how popular this concept is before I fully flesh out the details such as the magic system and plotline. I'm intending to do this story with one or two other players. If you are interested in what you see, have any questions, or anything else you want to bring to my attention, I'd appreciate doing so in this thread as opposed to private messages. Thank you for taking the time to read my work, and I look forward to writing a story together.

Thank you for expressing your interest. If I may, I'm curious what your initial thoughts about the sort of character that you want to play.

Well, they're not really set in stone, but I was thinking of possibly a character that likes to have attention on themselves to make up for how lonely they normally feel. That's all I have so far though.

This is definitely a neat idea. I will be up front though. I'm not sure I've be able to keep up with posting that quickly. I'm also not generally suited to the 1x1 sort of approach as opposed to players/GM style.

Is the world intended to be a sort of fantasy setting, or modern?

The world is modern fantasy in my imaginings of it, but the details haven't been hammered throughly, so I can change it to suit our preferences.

Modern fantasy's pretty neat. Though, with the set-up, it seems like magic has been a thing for a long time, so maybe it's the sort with some amount of magitech, which is always fun to me. That sort where magic tends to have replaced some technology. Or is it more a modern setting with magic within it? That can also be a fun way to go.

The starting unable to speak may be pretty difficult for a character, but there's got to be some interesting plan there.

The mute start exists to create that hero's journey format. If they just transformed, they'd likely be able to explain themselves and still have a place with their family. While I'm sure the more clever people could work around this, I'm just kinda trusting the player to allow themselves to find closure with the "known world" by giving a reasonable path out. (but, I have other ideas with it that I'm happy to surprise you with)

I can definitely make magitech integrate into the story. If you like, I even give you more of an administrative role with regards to creating the existing culture.

Magitech is just a possible thing. It is important enough that we establish how magic exists within the setting and the like. There are a lot of options, and it's best to be on the same page.

Same for things like if there will be that sort of trope with characters creating spirit barriers for fights, among other things.

I have some ideas already about what magic is that give life to the story, but I want to be careful about revealing too much. The mystery of it all is also a part of what makes it an adventure, but I also want to get an understanding of how magic is integrated into society as to have a solid base of lore.

If you've got ideas, that's solid enough. No need to go spill all your secrets now. I don't think I have any other thoughts or questions at the moment.

I'm going to leave this up through the weekend. Then begin work on the design. I expect launch on the following weekend.

Well snap, that's pretty interesting, but I guess I'm a bit late? Not sure if you were gonna cap it at 3, but if there's room for me, lemme know.

I've been unexpectedly busy, so I'm not sure if I'll honor the weekend launch date, but I wanted to give everyone an update on the situation. Currently, four people have expressed interest, one of which did so from a different RP site. Because I only intended to do this with one or two people, I'm not sure if I change the story to accommodate everyone or have everyone audition with a character pitch. I'll decide that by midnight tonight, and if you want to influence that decision, a poll has now been included to this post. Thank you for your interest and patience.

I mean... are you comfortable with 4? Is it an easy rework? I'd love to join this, but if you need to go with a "First Come, First Serve" policy, I understand.

I mean, it will probably be more work, but I have no idea of quantifying that. I just need to change my design approach to answer the question of how I will keep four people busy rather than 2. And, I don't agree with first come first serve. While it sounds fair on the surface, it really is one of the least fair systems. It gives favor to people based on when they are awake. Also, it gives favor to people I directed advertised this to over the people who found it themselves. I feel like these two reasons make me uncomfortable using a first come first serve basis.

Hmm. It's possible to be worked out, somehow. Sadly I don't have much to say on the matter, at least right now. >.<

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd have the time for this. Maybe I do, and I'm just convincing myself my schedule is tighter than it is, but I haven't quite figured out what things are going to be like this semester.

The daily posting is a little faster than I'm used to, but I'm pretty sure I can keep up. I was in a few other RPs that ended just recently, so I feel like there's a hole there waiting to be filled xD

I ended up deciding that I'm going to be doing this RP with @Luma and @Takumi, with plans to do a second run at a later date. I recommend you start on your characters so that we can get started as soon as I figure out everything on my end. My discord is Luna#9381. Please send me a friend request.
