Ahhhhhh okay. Would there be some sort of item that they need to get through the shrine or is it just their spiritual level that allows them? What if they each have a sort of talisman that lets them pass through the barrier? If they did, if someone were to lose it and a human were to find it, there could be drama with that because they would be able to enter the realm?

Idk, i'm just trying to throw more ideas in to contribute ; w ;
 
Maybe spiritual level, but I do like the idea of them having a special talisman of sorts. I'm not sure what the general racial abilities for youkai are in this rp, but maybe immortality is reliant upon that talisman. They basically need that talisman with them at all times or they're gonna be old and wrinkly in a few hours, if not dead. xD

I would not say a few hours, but days to weeks maybe? It would add a bit of drama if the talisman thing was the thing. Like it is their life force, key to their powers, their hearts in a sense.

Also, with humans having let the spiritual world fall into obscurity now... what if parts of the spiritual world are starting to disappear? WIth the constant pollution and destruction of the mortal world, what if it is having and affect on the spiritual realm as well? This could could also be a reason to why there are Youkai wanting to open the barrier? It's almost as a way to help their own kind? That would add more complexity to the situation.

There are Youkai who are becoming bitter to the humans because they are harming both the planet and in turn the spirits that are aligned with those aspects of environment. The oceans are polluted, so many of the sea spirits are falling ill. The air is polluted so the dragons cannot fly as they used to. The tree of life is wilting as humans uproot forests, etc. Things like that could add something rather interesting to the story.

This could play on the whole idea of the balance between life, spirituality, and death I think.

For some reason I'm imagining an idiot youkai accidentally dropping an elixir of semi-immortality and someone drinks it and finds that they are able to cross the barrier xD

But that sounds too much, so a talisman would be okay. I'm sure a lot of youkai have some sort of item that has their life force.

The people who are opening the barrier? The people manipulating those who are opening the barrier? The humans??? So many character options :thinking:

Maybe their end goal is to find a way to stop their world from disappearing, after they find out the youkai trying to reopen the seal are actually trying to do good - but just choosing the wrong method?

Yeah I like the sound of this. Their judgement is wrong, but their purpose is not bad. They just want to protect the spirit realm and amend the damage that has been made. Maybe it the humans see the Youkai, their faith will be reinstored and things can be fixed, but the issue with that is that there are some dangerous things kept behind the barrier. If it were to open, the entire balance of the two realms would be throw into chaos and that can mean the end of both realms as they know it?

Also, it they open the barrier, maybe that would release some of the REALLY bad Youkai that are kept behind it.

Just want to say that I'm interested. I won't be able to join immediately, since I have an exam coming up, but once I'm done I'd love to be part of this. ^^

I think there'll quite a bit to discuss over the course of the planning phase. Right now, we have a good deal of basics covered.

I think I'm set, still gotta figure out which yokai to make. I think I'll make a Tsurara Onna, and make her a shy lil cutie.

Also, how many characters can we have?
