It was a fairly bright, and sunny day out in the port city of New Florine with hardly a cloud in the sky. It was one of it's usually busy days as magi, and businesses went about their duties in order to make themselves, and thus the port city, prosper. The city was a fairly big one with a large port, and a spot on the peninsula of Minstrel it made itself as a pinnacle for trade in that section of the region. Combined with the lack of a central authority many people had made it a point to place themselves in it including a great number of mage guilds. Though it sometimes brought with it a bounty of issues no one in their sane mind would consider attacking a city with such a massive populace, and numerous magi. To be a mage in the city meant to always be looking out for a job, and or to be aware of the mage association's strict rules regarding the use of magic in the city. Fights, brawls, and or wars between magi were illegal unless supervised by a member of the guild, or taken into private grounds.

It was in this city that a large business called the Pentagon Company to base itself. It was situated near the docks area and was considered the biggest business outside of the central parts of the city. Though that wasn't saying much as the outskirts, and docks areas were considered for less well off, and or prosperous businesses. It was cheap space used normally for warehouses, and offices. However Pentagon Company was well respected for what it was: A Treasure Hunting Company. They went to ruins, battlefields, and or lost cities in an attempt to uproot ancient magic runes, treasure, and other goodies. It's head Clayton Pentagon was known for his larger than life persona, but still remaining a respectable man. A hard but fair individual he led the company's efforts through many years of hardship. However he has recently in the past few years abdicated his spot to his son Seth who now leads the company in through some of it's hardest years. As of recent the areas of Minstrel have been running short on loot as such finding islands to search through as become harder. Regardless the company marches on as stalwart as ever waiting for the day it's luster is restored.

Seth sat lazily on a hammock on the company's ship his eyes directly pointed up at the sky as he felt the cool sea breeze brush over him. He yawned as he scratched the top of his head. His fellow hunters were off on another mission and he was considering going out to an island they had already plundered just to try and see if there was anything worth of value they may have looked over. Still Nina was always a pain when it came to unnecessary sailing. Nina was his adopted sister a sweet little thing with a love for wind magic but she was still learning. Father had brought her up to be a very bossy young lady likely she was going to run the company's business side one day. She had her bad points but she was a very nice young lady none the less. Not compared to Seth who was rather unhappy about being stuck as being the leader. It was such a hassle making sure people did what they had to do, and reprimanding them if they screwed up. It was not something Seth enjoyed.

He heard the sound of footsteps running along the docks and instantly recognized them as they belonged to a young green haired girl with a purple cloak. The girl had violet eyes and was much younger than Seth himself. Seth grumbled to himself even more as Nina ran straight up to him on the hammock and whistled. "Big bro come on wake up! You can't be chilling on the boat you need to get ready for the new people!" Nina said as she frowned childishly at her foster brother who groaned indignantly, "Nina...they're not going to be here anytime soon...just because the boss set up posters for us doesn't mean people are going to be hopping up to join the crew." Seth said to Nina as he ran hand through his hair. "You have to be more responsible Seth! It's not fair that I have to work all day and all you do is sleep! You gotta be more like papa!" Seth stated as Nina puffed out her cheeks and shook the hammock more much to Seth's own disdain but he ignored it Nina was going to do what Nina was going to do until she tired out and gave up.

Seagulls bicker overhead as Chelicerae compares the name on the side of the ship to the one mentioned in passing on the poster. This certainly seems to be it; the hammock on deck with some muscular, tanned limbs hanging over the side makes it seem even more likely. The guy seems to be getting pestered by some kind of small relative in a cloak. Maybe he'd welcome a distraction, even if that distraction is not even slightly supposed to be applying this way. (It's strategy, I know how these things go if I start getting compared against combat mages with massive abs.)

"Good day!" Chel calls out cheerily, though her voice makes it more of a croak. She waves the poster in her attached hand, the sea wind making it flutter.

Seth put his hands on his face and rubbed his eyes roughly groaning. He could feel Nina glaring daggers at his face as the voice of a woman came not too long after Nina had arrived. "Alright let's see what's going on...come aboard I guess." Seth said in a tired exasperated voice as Nina pulled herself aside to let him stand up. "I'm a bit tired so sorry if I sound irritated it's not your fault. I blame my rugrat here." Seth called out as Nina smacked his arm but Seth ignored it as the young girl frowned at him sternly. "Alright come aboard don't be shy. This is my little sister named Nina. She bites but only if you call her small." Seth continued as he yawned tiredly once again and shook his head. "That's a lie! I don't bite people!" she protested quickly in retort at her older brother who stood up from his seat on the hammock and stretched himself. "You got the poster? Alright well name's Pentagon. Seth Pentagon to be exact. I'm not the big boss but I'm the boss in charge of getting things done. You know because a guy my age should be running the business right?" Seth said sarcastically as he waited for the girl to come aboard.

Sun beating down on his dark vest, white dress shirt underneath collecting what sweat formed on his back, Cerron Sternobel plodded through the lightly breezy docksides, a bag slung over his shoulder.

Running a hand through his navy blue hair, Cerron held up the poster he'd been given at the café, glancing over to check the name of the nearest ship, one again coming up short. He grumbled to himself, "'Just go to the docks'?" Turning to look at the long stretch of coast he'd spent the last half hour walking down, dodging around loading and checking vessel names under the bashing sun, he finished bitterly, "It feels like half of this city is portside..."

And naturally, just as he voiced his complaints, he spotted a girl in a wide red hat heading up the gangplank before checking the ship name, finding his target. "Ah," he gasped lightly, before following the woman up as conversation trailed down stopping behind her, his broad form becoming apparent behind her thinness, though he said nothing as the man on deck continued to speak, calmly waiting.

"Right, I see, I see," murmurs Chel under her breath, crossing the creaking gangplank carefully. Maybe my luck is picking up! She crosses the deck hastily and stands before Pentagon's hammock. "My name is Chelicerae Green. I'm a wandering medicine seller - not really, um, a surgeon or anything, but I can cure poison and sicknesses and so on, and I can live rough off plants, roots, dead animals and such. I've been travelling alone for three years now, so I know how to look after myself." She stops abruptly, unsure if she talked too much. At least I didn't forget anything. I think.

"Alright Chel well it's nice to meet you I suppose. I don't know about the other titles but medicine, and adventuring could be useful on our adventures. I can patch up a wound sometimes but I can't if I don't have the supplies to do it. If you don't mind me saying you don't look like the type to join the crew. Why you here to join up with us?" commented Seth as he grabbed her hand and shook it firmly with a good grip. He didn't care if she was a woman, or not the best way to gauge someone was through the way they shook your hand. "Um Seth there's someone else here. Um are you with Chel Mister?" commented the young girl as Seth looked up from Chel and over to the other individual whom had shown up. Raising an eyebrow he looked over the man's outfit. "He certainly doesn't look the part...hey sir are you trying to find my old man? He's back at the house. I'm in charge of getting a crew together to go on our company's next adventure I'm not part of that business/finance stuff just yet." Seth commented towards the mysterious man whom showed up not long after Chel showed up. "Excuse my big brother Mister he's just...not the type to deal with more technical stuff. Can I help you?" Nina questioned innocently as she looked at the man.

Fair enough... I guess I don't look all that vigorous. "Um, I'd like to see more of the world," Chel replies, fidgeting with the crushed paper and birds' bones in her pocket. "A-and I need the money. I don't know how long you can live off mushrooms before you get malnourished, but I'd guess I'm at about that point, medically." She laughs nervously, abruptly moving her hand out of her coat to push her stringy hair out of her face.

Moving onto the deck a bit properly, Cerron blinked vacantly as he was addressed. Old man? he wondered briefly, lifting up the posting to give it another look, wondering if he'd made some mistake. What old man?

Once he was ascertained that there was no such mistake (in part due to the younger sister), Cerron began, "I followed the job posting. I was recommended here by a stranger after I inquired about local work for mages." Parts of the earlier conversation between Seth and Chel processing as Cerron realized he was in the same position as the frail looking woman, he began, words confident, "As for why, I'm looking for additional life experience, more or less."

"Seems fair enough you got any certification? Any reasons in specific on why I should bring you along? You got any combat experience? Any specific quirks I should know about? Can't be bringing lazy bums on my ship. It's not an easy world you know. Treasure Hunting I mean. It requires patience, and skill big guy. As for fidgets right here...I think we can make a deal. I'll let you on board if you promise to help out with medical stuff, and keeping an eye out for rare herbs, and stuff. Things I usually overlook that can be sold for a quick penny when out travelling. Small stuff yeah but it adds up I would think." Seth stated casually as he went to the side of the deck of his small ship and leaned on the railing. "Before we go heading out I have some contracts I need you to sign. You know legal shit. I'm not going to be liable for people getting screwed over on the trip. I want you to know the risks before heading out. That being said this isn't all life and death stuff. Just something you may need to think over." Seth coutinued as Nina hopped from one spot to another. "Big bro's a natural lightning mage he can take care of himself. Natural parts of the journey require constitution for travel, and quick thinking. Traps, and wild life are a thing. And while not an ordinary danger enemy mage are also possible, and liable to show up. We're not the only ones out there trying to pay bills." Nina said loudly as she raised her arms in the air. "Consider supplies you may need before heading out. But over all else be confident." Nina continued as she smacked her flat chest. "A mage without confidence may as well not be a mage at all!"

"Alright, then, I'll sign whenever you're ready," murmurs Chel almost ecstatically underneath the younger Pentagon's speech, a big, crooked grin splitting her face. I did it! I really got the job! My luck is picking up! In response to her feelings, her right hand twitches spasmodically underneath her hat, and she has to make a grab at the battered headgear to keep it on. ... Maybe I'd be better if I stopped keeping this around all the time. They might get startled if they saw a severed hand poking out from under my hat... No, it'll be fine, that wouldn't bother anybody, would it.
Something Nina says about enemy mages bothers her a little, but the warm buzz of being accepted even at a mere professional level makes it easy to ignore. It'll be fine. I've been injured plenty of times, there's nothing to it.

Feeling challenged, Cerron boldly began, "Certification? I've achieved Mastery in the basics of Water-Make Magic. Combat experience? I've had a good deal of martial training, especially in hand to hand combat. Patience? Skill? I have them in spades. I assure you: I'm no 'lazy bum'. Quirks? ...None that I know."

Now having something to prove, Cerron concluded, stepping a bit further onto the deck, "Reason enough? I'll sign anything."

As he let that hang in the air, a sudden...'fidgeting' from under Chel's hat caught his eye. She immediately moved her hand up, making Cerron wonder if he'd been seeing things, breaking his focus a bit.

"There's no need to be that serious mister. We're not trying to offend you. Just trying to make sure you're right for the job. Our father wants us to only hire a reliable sort. Anything further just cuts down on the pay checks we each earn from our job. Sloth is the enemy of good business." Nina said in return to Cerron's words. "Ignoring my little sister's tendency for bizarre choices of wording if what you say is true than I'll welcome you aboard. Just turn it down a notch alright? We're a business but sticks in the mud don't help anyone. Gotta have an open mind and all that jazz." Seth said as he yawned a bit before reaching out his hand to Cerron. "Name's Seth Pentagon. I'm the head of the treasuring squad. Meaning I go look for the stuff. My dad is Clayton Pentagon. He will be your actual boss if you sign on. He's not the sort you like to disappoint by not giving it your all. Do good work and he'll treat you good though. He actually sells stuff that we get. Remember our paychecks aren't immediate. We have to find a buyer and that means it may take a few days. Each person is attributed to an even portion of the paycheck with any extra going to the company's coffers." Seth stated professionally for the first time since he woke up. He didn't like really acting this way it was way to formal for him but he needed to make sure he got his point across. If he didn't pull his own weight, and talk like the captain then others wouldn't respect him. Those who didn't usually had to have it beaten into them and Seth wasn't some master mage. If what Cerron said was true he was particularly talented in fighting he needed to remember that. "Any lodging concerns will be left up to you. However we do have a place for people to stay at temporarily while you find a place for yourself. It's just how it goes. The contract will not prevent you from doing odd jobs but please refrain from joining a mage's guild. It could conflict with our company in terms of jobs. Which could get messy if things went south." Nina added in with a quick quip.

Right, right, that all seems fair enough... though it seems like we only get paid for results. Treasure isn't like mushrooms or something, there's only so much out there... I guess that just means we'll have to travel further! I wanted to go a long way, anyway.
Absorbed in her own thoughts, Chel tunes out the second part of the briefing, only picking up something about lodgings. That's fine, that's fine, I'll figure something out. Or sleep in a tree. I guess.

Cerron's eye twitched lightly. After insisting that 'a mage without confidence isn't much of a mage', Nina's response to said confidence was that he was 'too serious'. He made a mental note to file away most of what she said as the prattling of a child.

Taking Seth's hand in a shake, Cerron nodded along with the explainations and keeping it all packed away in his head, implicit and explicit information both. There was quite a lot to keep in mind in this business, it seemed.

Shifting his posture towards the gangplank, he shot a brief, curious glance at the rather quiet Chel, before recalling, "You mentioned supplies earlier? Aside from the contract, is there anything pressing, or shall I take care of that?" His shoulder bag dangling on his back jostled lightly. "I'm not exactly geared up for an adventure at present. Anything in particular you might recommend?"

"Hey don't look at me funny like that! I'm the girl who helps pay your bills you know!" Nina shouted at Cerron loudly as Seth grumbled something inaudible to himself. Why did Nina have to always be so loud when people disregarded her? Couldn't she act like everyone else and not care? "Depends on what you think you'll need. Personally I never go out with less than some medical supplies, some climbing boots, though any shoes will do really, some rope, and some gloves for handling things. It's all about wildness survival boss so you may want to bring water, and food but considering who you are i think you got the water part down...Hey Fidgets what about you say something? You even paying attention to what I'm saying? If you're on aboard you need to say so." Seth said to the little lady thinking by herself as he put his hand on his head. "I hope I'm not making a mistake bring you aboard. You know this business isn't guaranteed anything. It's strict earn what you get. I'm not promising extraordinary amounts of money just a fair deal when we do." Seth felt like they deserved to hear that before anything went down. "I'm not some little snob. I'm just giving you all fair warning before anything happens."

"O-oh, yeah, definitely, I'm in," stutters Chel, falling violently off her train of thought with a visible twitch. "Don't worry about that, I can, uh, handle it. I think." I can't actually think of a way to get hold of a rope right now, but I'm not going to say that for the same reason I'm not going to ask you to stop calling me that. I can't risk losing this. I just can't. "I kind of guessed the money might work like that," she adds thoughtfully. Actually, I might not need the rope, what with my magic, her meandering brain supplies helpfully before she drags it back to the task at hand.

"Alright well look how about Nina shows you guys to the big house while I wait here for other people to arrive? I can't leave because I need to wait here for others. Nina on the other hand is free. And she's a big girl so she can handle herself. Speak to my pops and say you're here to sign a contract. Sign it, get ready, and then come back to me got it?" Seth said as he wandered over to the far side of the boat and leaned himself over the edge. "Shouldn't take too long. Old man needs to get work done and doesn't have the time to small talk with you all."

Running over potential supplies in his head, thumb bouncing on his fingers as he counted, Cerron stopped his mental run as Chel was addressed again. Cerron studied her somewhat confident responses, uncertain of her qualifications, but he was not the one making the calls here. Still, it was only more perceived notes to keep posted.

With Seth's follow up suggestion, Cerron looked between Nina and Chel, having doubts, before relenting, slipping his fingers into his pockets, letting his hands poke out, before he confirmed, "Understood. Seems simple enough." Not even bothering to wait for Nina, he headed back down the gangplank, prepared to wait at the bottom for the ladies.
