Thinking about the fact that this was the last year of summer camp for Hannes was something that had actually made him quite sad the weeks leading up to it. But it didn't keep him feeling excited as soon as he got there, though. Finally getting to see the familiar fields of grass and buildings after waiting to get back there for an entire year.

There was no proper activities the first couple of days, just some random and somewhat organized sports and games while everyone got settled in, caught up with old friends and made some new ones.

Hannes had made a point of it to get to know as many new people as possible every year and the couple of people that had stuck around for the same amount of time as he had gotten used to him finding different groups to hang out with every year and also him just talking to everyone in general.

He was currently standing out in the already blazing morning sun in a small crowd of other campers his age casually talking while one of the counsellors were calling out their names and asking how they would spend their time before lunch with a choice of getting some sport equipment and play whatever they wanted or going down to to the beach to swim. Hannes found the fact that they had to specify what they wanted to do ever so redundant but he assumed it was so that they would know whether to worry about someone they couldn't find had drowned or not.

Hannes name had already been called and he had signed up for doing random sports, even though it was really hot out and swimming probably would be more pleasant, he just figured he'd he'd rather wait until later to change into swim trunks.

Everyone seemed to split pretty fifty-fifty to the two activities and everyone responded quickly to get the day started as soon as possible. That was until they were about halfway down the list when someone seemed to make it a point to not.

"Jayken Matthews" the counselor repeated themselves and people looked around in confusion. Hannes had no idea who Jayken was and he had probably not introduced himself to him properly, "Not here? Could someone go check on him and see if he overslept?"

Hannes looked around at the reluctant teens around him and raised his hand as it didn't seem as if anyone else would. A girl next to him with freckled skin and a curly mess of a ponytail chuckled slightly and mumbled: "of course you would".
Hannes gave her a glare, he knew she wasn't serious, though, The girl who's name was Emma, had been there last year and was only pointing out his predictable behavior for some good hearted fun.

"I'll do it," he said as he was done glaring at Emma, the counselor nodded and went back to calling out names as Hannes turned around and started to walk back to the indoors and sleeping areas. It wasn't that uncommon for people to oversleep during the morning activities, Hannes had done it a couple of times as well although during some of the occasions he just hadn't really felt enough motivation to get out of bed, that didn't happen too often at camp since there always was a lot to look forward to.

"Yo! I'm looking for someone called Jayken, and if you could come out here it'd be totally awesome!" Hannes called out as he walked into the building where people had their rooms. He figured he would call out before starting to knock on doors in hope that they guy would come out by himself and Hannes could tell him to wake up and then go back to the sun outside.

Jayken wasn't at all happy to be at a summer camp. He was completely fine, spending his days in his room playing videogames in the dark, finally able to be left alone. That is, until his parents barged in saying he was going to be spending his summer at a camp, saying that it was going to be fun and he was going to be able to meet so many new people.

He was expecting the part of them saying that he needed to hang around some girls to start becoming normal, and even though he had gotten used to it, it still hurt a bit to hear that. He didn't know whether his parents knew that he was still going to stay inside when he got there or not, but that was exactly his plan.

As soon as he was dropped off, he found his cabin and his room. He avoided the people that he would be sharing the cabin with, especially the guy that seemed to be the most friendliest out of the group. He spent the first few days in his room, as planned. Each day, someone was sent to get him, and each day, they gave up on finding him. They didn't know where his room was, and they didn't know who he was, so he didn't need to give any of that information away.

He woke up early, as per usual since he had to wake up at five each morning. Hearing the other kids getting ready for the same boring activities just made him want to stay inside all the more. He was going to stay inside, do some drawing, maybe even some reading, then go to bed at eight, even though lights out was at ten.

He jumped in surprise when he heard his name being called out, a frown coming to his lips soon after he composed himself. He shook his head slightly, letting out a sigh before moving further into the sheets of his bed, pulling his sketchbook with him. Again, nobody knew where he stayed, so how would this person? He'd give up soon.

Hannes stood quietly for a while to see if whoever Jayken was would decide to come out. But seemingly he had not heard, or maybe chose not to respond because nothing happened. He sighed overly dramatically as if someone was there to hear him. Knocking on doors it was then, because he wasn't giving up.

He could exclude some doors from his knocking, through his amazing powers of deduction, that actually were him knowing all the people in those cabins already. He still didn't seem to have any luck at all and was now starting to get bored with the task. The guy could literally just have gone to the bathroom or something and Hannes could be stubbornly waisting his time looking for no one.

Since he already was down by the cabins anyways he decided he might as well pop into his own room to grab a waterbottle from his bag to fill up since the day was shaping up to be hotter than he had thought and he'd regret it if he didn't ones he was back to doing actual activities even if the heat wasn't killing him right at that moment.

As soon as he walked in he mentally noted everyone's doors and matched them up with people he had been introduced to and who had all been there during role call. There was one he couldn't place, though. There was this one kid he'd barely seen at all as he had been busy talking to everyone else and Hannes couldn't help but to stare suspiciously at the door to the unknown individual's room. Could it be Jayken? Well it certainly was a possibility and it couldn't hurt to knock, so he did.

"Hey if you're in there I'm looking for you, so please come out," He said it loud enough to be heard through the door and dragged out the o sound in out a little in mock irritation, even though he actually was glad he might have found the guy.

Jayken let out a soft breath when he couldn't hear the older male any longer, glad that he was being left alone to do...nothing. He frowned, looking through the sketchbook in his hand. All of them had been of the past few years, when his parents first told him about how evil being gay was.

The majority of them were dark, depressing drawings, portraying his darkest emotions of loneliness and depression. The other small percentage were gay pride drawings, portraying his desire to be who he wanted without being discriminated. Remembering back to when he told his parents he might be gay, then getting beaten and forced baptism, he realized that some people weren't going to accept him. He knew his parents wouldn't, so he left the thought of being gay behind.

Jayken flinched when he heard the main cabin door open, quickly shoving his sketchbook underneath his covers. He listened closely to the footsteps, wondering why someone was here. People rarely left the activities, so was this the guy that was trying to seek him out? He hoped not...then the guy wouldn't leave him alone about coming outside.

He grew even more anxious when the footsteps wandered over to his door, and the knock effectively making him jump. He cursed lightly under his breath, his eyes narrowing at the door.

"I don't want to go out, so you can go away. I'm staying in here for the summer, it's not like you can force me to do activities." He called out to the voice beyond the door.

With the response he got from the other side of the door Hannes felt it was safe to assume this was in fact who he was looking for.

It wasn't like Hannes was a stickler to the rules so he could have let it go and just leave on the guy's request. But it seemed so sad somehow. Summer camp was so much fun, they might not be doing anything special today but he still couldn't see how someone would rather sit indoors on such a nice day. It must be that he didn't know how fun it was once you got into it, Hannes figured and decided it now was up to him to show him.

It happened that shy people got left out during activities, ended up having a really bad time and not making friends, so whenever Hannes saw something like that happen he would do his best to try to drag them along. Locking themselves into their room was a new extreme, though.

"Well actually, I'm pretty sure you do have to partake in activities so they know you're not wandering of getting lost in the woods or whatever" Hannes pointed out through the door, there was a reason for the role calls and why he was sent to go get the other boy after all. As long as he was locked in they didn't know where he was. Or well, they would probably take Hannes word for it but then he wouldn't have an excuse to try to get this guy out, "Besides, I can't go back if you're not coming with and I don't wanna sit outside your door all summer"

Nobody had told him he couldn't come back, Hannes had just decided to make that up, what the other didn't know wouldn't hurt him and maybe some guilt was what was needed to at least get him to open the door. Even if it was kind of a mean way to do it.

Jayken let out a sigh of annoyance, throwing the covers off of himself and standing up. He walked over to the door, since he was already dressed and ready for the day, though that didn't mean he was leaving. He opened the door and turned his glare to the much taller male in front of him.

"I'm not going, so you can tell them that they can stop trying. I was sent here against my will, and I'm not doing anything except staying here with my stuff. So you can leave." He said stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest and silently wishing he was back home.

He knew he was being rude and just a bit cruel, but that's what happens when you send your child to camp they don't want to go to and practically tell him to get a girlfriend for his sorry ass. Just thinking about that made his depression flare up, making him wonder why he had to be gay and such a disappointment to his family. The hurt flashed across his face, but he quickly covered it with a glare.

"Do you mind? I want to finish my drawing before tonight when all the kids start singing campfire songs." He said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Hannes couldn't help but feel curious as soon as the door started to open to see who it was. He had indeed seen him once or twice but hadn't had the time say hello quite yet. He had noted the first time he saw him that he would go over to talk to him though because Hannes knew he would have been all over the guy when he was younger. Because of they way he was dressed and his piercings, not because he was cute. Although as he looked at him now he couldn't deny that fact, even if he was giving him a really angry glare as he spoke.

"You draw?!" Hannes made a very conscious decision ignore his sneer at campfire songs in favour of trying to get the guy in a more positive mood. Also drawing was pretty cool, "That's perfect"

Hannes put a hand on the guy's shoulder and pushed past him into his room, which he was aware of was a total invasion of privacy, but as long as he was in the room the guy couldn't lock himself inside it.

"Grab your things and then you can go outside and draw," Hannes said stubbornly, he was really not planning on taking no for an answer here "they are doing sports and games as an activity, and that basically just 'do whatever you want time' anyways"

He could actually relate to the guy a little, his parents had forced him here as well a good couple of years ago, although he hadn't been as reluctant to partaking as Jayken seemed to be, so he had figured out pretty quickly that it was a lot of fun. But if this guy sat indoors the entier summer he wouldn't even give himself the chance to see if he would find it fun and Hannes figured the promise of not having to partake in the activities would probably be the best way to lure him out.

Jayken seemed confused as to why the older male was looking at him as if he was looking in a mirror, and it also made him a bit uncomfortable. He was about to shut the door when the male moved past him into his room, a look of shock and anger crossing his face. When he exclaimed that the younger drawing was 'perfect', he quickly moved into his room and grabbed his sketchbooks, holding them close to his chest in order to protect the content inside.

"It's rude to step into someone's personal space, especially their room, so get out. I don't draw outside, because then anybody could pass by and see. I also don't draw scenery, so no. I'm not a sports guy, either, so that idea is out as well. I don't see why you're trying so hard to make me go outside. It's not like it's any of your concern." He said with slightly narrowed eyes, though he paused for a second.

The male was making a very hard effort to get him to go outside. Why? He was the outcast. The nobody. Why would he make such an effort, and with his stubborn ass? "Why are you trying so hard?" He asked, his voice a bit softer as he stared at the male with suspicion. "You don't even know me. Why do you want me to go outside?"

"Because it's fun," Hannes stated simply, "believe me, you're gonna get bored sitting inside and then when you finally give up on it or your forced out by a counselor your not gonna have anyone to hang out with"

The truth might have been slightly harch, but he had seen it that happen once or twice during his many summers at camp and while he tried to include those people it was always difficult to rope people along once the damage already was done.

"You don't need to draw, or play sports or whatever if you're not comfortable with that" Hannes continued, trying to get his point point across and gave him a small and hopefully reassuring smile, "just come and hang around for a while, you can sit with me and my friends if you want to"

If part of the problem was that he wasn't comfortable approaching people Hannes really wouldn't mind hanging around him for a while, so far the guy had ben pretty standoffish but it was kind of interesting to see someone who reminded him of his younger self, at least in appearance.

Hannes and most of his friends had grown out of dressing in mostly black. He still refused to ditch the sweatbands, bracelets and band shirts, though, which was proven by his current look of a white T-shirt with the Gorillaz Demon Days album cover printed on it, combined with his usual abundance of bracelets to cover up the faded scars on his forearms.

Jayken let out a frustrated breath, shaking his head slightly. "Nothing about this could be fun. Especially when you don't have any friends." He muttered the last part under his breath, his arms still crossed with his books between them and his chest. He pretty much repeated the older's first sentence, just with different, stubborn wording.

After hearing the older's invitation to come and sit with his friends, a frown appeared on his lips, scratching at his sleeved arms a bit. "I'm not sure if that will work. They're your friends, not mine. It'd be weird to bring a random person in." He said, becoming less reluctant, but now his emotions were starting to show through, and his insecurity.

"I'll be fine on my own. I'll go outside, maybe do something, but I don't need to make any friends. Thanks for the offer, though." He murmured softly, looking down at the ground to avoid the older's gaze.

Okay so obviously a big part of the problem really was not being able to approach people. Seemingly to insecure to think that other people wouldn't mind hanging out with someone they didn't know. Which wasn't at all the case, most people he had met at camp was really approachable and keen on making new friends but it was clear that Jayken didn't know that.

Hannes frowned for a moment, not really sure what the best way to approach the situation would be. Maybe he really should leave him alone, or maybe he all he needed was some extra convincing so that he would know he was welcomed. He decided to at least try to go for the latter.

"C'mon, don't be like that" he smiled and hoped to convince him with the words that followed "There's different people here every year so we bring in random people all the time, it's nothing to worry about"

If he'd get another no after this last attempt he'd leave the poor guy alone. But he wouldn't give up, though, he'd just come back another day, or catch him outside or something and try to convince him again, but preferably he wouldn't have to.

Jayken looked up at the older when he tried, once again, to try to get him to go outside. He frowned, glancing over at the clock to read that it was only 11AM, meaning he still had a long day ahead of him where he would most likely get bored. He let out a long sigh, placing his sketchbooks down onto his bed before rubbing his arm insecurely.

"I'll go outside...but I don't want to do any activities right now." He said, a small blush rising to his cheeks before he moved past the older male and outside the cabin. The bright rays of the sun almost blinded him, having to blink a few times till his eyes adjusted. He looked around a bit, biting his lip when he saw just how many kids came to the camp.

He already wanted to go back inside, but feeling the warmth from the sun through his long sleeves made him stay put, having a thing for being warm all the time. He compared himself to a reptile when it came to heat, never liking the cold. So feeling the heat of the early morning and the sun made a small smile tug at the corner of his lips.

Hannes smiled brightly in victory, it actually made him quite happy since he hoped it would help this guy make some friends or maybe partake in future activities even if he didn't want to do it now.

"see it's not that bad" Hannes said as they walked out and the hot midday sun hit their skin. The sun would probably get annoying soon wnough though, seeing as Jayken apparently was wearing long sleeves in the middle of summer and Hannes himself was wearing black sweatbands which he knew were going to kill him in an hour or two.

They started walking in the direction Hannes had come from, since he was actually planning on telling a counsleor that Jayken was alive, because he saw no reason in making their jobs any harder.

"So it's Jayken, right?" he asked, partially to confirm that it really was him and to make some casual conversation as they walked, "Or do you preffer something else, like Jake, or Ken, or I dunno Jay, maybe?"

Jayken followed after the older when he noticed he had started walking, his smile disappearing as he looked at the scenery around him. He wasn't comfortable with being close to people, so when someone ran by or came to say hello to Hannes, he got tense and kept his head down to avoid eye contact.

He slowly calmed down when they were a bit away from the other kids that were doing the activities for today. He looked up at Hannes when asked his name, nodding slowly. "I prefer Jayken...but you can call me Jay if you want." He said quietly, rubbing at his arm again as he looked around, not letting his eyes linger on one thing for too long in fear that someone would call him out for it, especially since his gaze kept wandering to the guys that were at the camp, and not the females.

"alrighty then! I'm Hannes by the way" he said in a chipper voice to Jayken and simultaneously waved to someone he had talked to briefly the other day as he passed them.

He couldn't help but noticing how Jayken kept shying away from every person that passed them or tried to communicate, keeping his eyes glued to the ground, and he wondered if forcing him out actually had been really mean. What was done was already done, though.

"So tell me, Jay" he was going to settle with calling him that for now, mostly because it was faster to say. Hannes was quiet for a second as he tried to come up with a question to ask, "how old are you?"

It was something he actually wondered, the camp was for people between the ages 14 to 18, which was quite the large age range and activities tended to be grouped of based on age so he had to be on the older half of the spectrum. It wasn't really that he looked super young though and Hannes figured it was his height that threw him off, and since he was wondering he might as well take the opportunity to ask.

It also wasn't a very personal question, so he guessed that was good when just getting to know someone as well.

Jayken looked up at the older, noticing him staring. A blush moved onto his cheeks, rubbing the back of his neck nervously as he walked. "I'm eighteen. What about you?" He asked rather quietly, then seemed to jump about ten feet in the air when a kid went running past him without any warning.

He really wasn't a people person, and he showed. But that was just from years of being alone with no-one to talk to. His parents didn't approve of some of the friends he had brought home, especially if they were like him, that wore black and had piercings. That's where they think his 'phases' came from, including the suicidal thoughts that plagued him, and his sexuality.

It made him retreat into his shell, so much that he didn't even talk to his other family members outside his house, afraid that they'd take some word that he had said and bring it to his parents that they could use against him. He couldn't bring himself to tell anyone about his parents though.

"huh, were the same age" Hannes said a small hint of surprise in his voice, he would have guessed that the other boy would have been at least one or maybe two years younger, not only because how his height, but also because he associated his looks so strongly with the way Hannes dressed when he was younger.

As they passed the usual meeting point for activities, a big circle of gravel outside the main office building and cafeteria, Hannes waved to the counselor who had been doing the role call and then pointed at Jayken.

"Found him!" he shouted as they were pretty far away from the other person, "We're gonna do sports and games"

The counselor made gave them a thumbs up sign and they continued walking over to an area, which still was a good bit away, where a bunch of people had seemed to have taken up playing soccer while Hannes had been busy trying to find Jayken.

"Don't worry I'm not actually planning on forcing you to do anything like that" he reminded Jayken, just in case he got worried about what he had said to the counselor, "like I said, It's basically just what they call free time, so"

Jayken blinked in surprise, not expecting that either. He would've thought that the other male was at least a bit older, or a staff member from how tall he was. Or he was just that short. He really hated being this short.

He looked around curiously when he saw a game of soccer going on, his eyes blinking in wonder once he saw the game progressing. When the older male told him he wouldn't force him to play any sports, he bit his lip nervously and looked up at HAnnes. "I would actually...like to play. I-If that's okay." He stuttered, his eyes wide.

"Sure, sure!" Hannes said happily, trying not to sound too surprised as he assumed Jayken probably wouldn't want to act as if it was a big deal and make it weird, "I have to warn you though, I'm pretty shit at soccer"

Hannes was bad at a lot of sports, but he was of the general opinion that sports were meant for fun and not to win, at least at camp, so he would often join in to play anyways and no one really complained.

He grabbed Jaykens arm and pulled him in on a part of the field that currently held no action of the game.
"Yo! Mike, we're joining!" Out of the people on the field the blond very typically jock looking guy was the person Hannes knew the best, and knowing him he was probably who had probably taken it upon themselves to get the game started.

The game stopped briefly as Mike picked up the ball with his hands, which someone in the background could be heard complain about slightly, be able to get the two new players into the game.

"You can join Emmas team, because she's a lazy asshole and decided to 'coach' them from the sidelines," Mike said and Hannes heard the girl shout an insult from somewhere of the field, "Oh, and I'm Mike"

He turned to Jayken as he introduced himself, not at all surprised by Hannes finding some random kid to join them in their activities.

Jayken gave a soft smile at the older saying he wasn't very good at soccer. He entered onto the patch of area they were playing soccer, looking at the other teammates with a small blush tainting his cheeks. He let out a squeak when he was tugged, his eyes widening at the sudden move forward.

When he was finally able to compose himself and stop, he let out a nervous chuckle and gave a small wave, hearing the small groans of protest at stopping the game. He looked up at Mike, blinking slightly before he blushed and nodded slightly. "I-I'm Jayken...thanks for letting me play." He murmured softly.
