I've thought long and hard as of late of doing a roleplay that I've named "21 Guns". I envision it as being an operatic and psychological piece on the horrors of war in a city under siege. In terms of setting, I'm not sure exactly where I wanted to set it. Personally, I felt that a first-world city would add to the horror of what is witnessed in the RP - no one ever expects the United States to face a Stalingrad or Aleppo situation, after all. The story itself would be divided into six or seven parties of connected players, with parties interacting over the course of the RP, but spending most of their time acting of their own accord. Each party would have a democratically elected representative that reports directly to me, the GM, or the Co-GM, with requests for new conflicts or an idea to push along their story. Otherwise, the parties would be free to wander the sandbox of the city so long as they stuck to the established lore. Inter-party interactions would be managed by Party Leaders, and overseen by the GMs.
Ultimately, the goal was to have an RP on par with Ilium in terms of size and quality, but with a radically different premise revolving around a civil war/invasion scenario in which civilians are forced to fight to survive. The story would be kept strictly off the lines of something like Red Dawn, where normal people become insurgents overnight, and more along the lines of "These people have to do horrible things to one another in order to earn the chance of making it through this tragedy." At the end of the day, each character would be armed (hence twenty-one guns), but would not necessarily go around guns blazing. Emphasis would be placed upon conservation of resources, stealth, and especially on plot and character development instead of combat. Eventually, the story would culminate with the meetup of multiple groups as the fighting in the city escalates to unprecedented levels, and would end with the total destruction of the city via a clash between the military and the resident rebels (not the eponymous 21, but rather a background organization) warranting mass artillery assaults. It would be up to the discretion of the players whose characters survived. The Epilogue would constitute a meetup between the survivors of the incident, an exchange of stories, and a retrieval of the new group by a neutral third party (the Red Cross, the UN, etc.).
So far, I have done absolutely NOTHING to advance this story beyond my cranium, even though I wish I did.
