Your Dream Roleplay

Do you have a "dream" roleplay? One whose concept practically haunts your thoughts when you think of writing?

Have you tried to run this roleplay before? What obstacles did you encounter (or, if you haven't what is holding you back from bringing the idea to fruition)?

Nearly any RP that I actually go through with creating is my "dream RP", because I come up with so many RP ideas and have so little time to create any of them that the only ones I actually go through with are the ones I can't stop thinking about. XD

And then, once that's up and running for a while, I find that my tastes change, and I have something else that I'm craving... and then that becomes the new "dream RP". XD

I've never really had an idea that's constantly been in the back of my mind and that I've never actually gone through with for whatever reason, so... if that's what you meant as a "dream RP", then, I can't say I can relate. o_o" The closest thing I can think of to that would be the super-early planning stages of Altera Arcana, when I had a bunch of vague ideas and cravings but I didn't know how I wanted it to all come together, and I couldn't think of a way for it to work as an actual roleplay. ...But then I worked those issues out, and that's how Altera Arcana happened. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hrmmm...not sure.
There was a rp I was REALLY looking forward to, and actually did quite a lot of research for content, put time into coding, etc. Posted to see if anyone was interested in it. Someone was! They created a character, and posted an opener.

..
That was as far as that got.
They poof'd after that, and despite holding out for a month or so, I had to accept that they were not going to return.
Was really bummed after that. More so than usual considering how much time I had put into everything. Made me not want to re-post it, and so I never did. Left that rp site not too long later after writing there for years.

Wouldn't have called it my 'dream rp', but I really wanted to see it through more.

Ugh, I have so many, but honestly, this one roleplay I've always wanted to do, and then I saw an opportunity, but that flew out the window cus the roleplay died. Gothic horror Victorian era with supernatural creatures. ; ;

That is my dream rp atm.

No.

Nothing I ever create is ever perfect and will over time become more because I love the progress, fun and people it has had, versus the initial vision.

Want to know my favourite moment in GM'ing a roleplay? It was when a player killed off a character I meant to grow integral to the plot, and had to revise all my plans. Until the end of the RP, I didn't tell anyone and nobody ever suspected the amount of improvisation the RP had thrived on.

The parts I love most are the ones that challenge and surprise me. Overcoming obstacles is far more satisfying than something going completely according to plan.

Kitti-fur. I can't say it haunts me cuz I try to avoid being stalked by my own ideas :dude:, but I did put together one RP for this site (I.e. designed for here, but not implemented) which I am fond of. Strangely enuf, it's an alternate timeline Victorian with supernatural creatures and intended highlights are romance, horror, intrigue, vice versus virtue, and dire doings. Player driven.

The first arc is what I've titled "A Gothic House Party." Player choices would determine how this ends and affect the next arc. Player sheets to be in the form of (Victorian) personal ads with portraits.

However, my life currently doesn't permit me to throw this open for an interest check. Maybe some day!

I've thought long and hard as of late of doing a roleplay that I've named "21 Guns". I envision it as being an operatic and psychological piece on the horrors of war in a city under siege. In terms of setting, I'm not sure exactly where I wanted to set it. Personally, I felt that a first-world city would add to the horror of what is witnessed in the RP - no one ever expects the United States to face a Stalingrad or Aleppo situation, after all. The story itself would be divided into six or seven parties of connected players, with parties interacting over the course of the RP, but spending most of their time acting of their own accord. Each party would have a democratically elected representative that reports directly to me, the GM, or the Co-GM, with requests for new conflicts or an idea to push along their story. Otherwise, the parties would be free to wander the sandbox of the city so long as they stuck to the established lore. Inter-party interactions would be managed by Party Leaders, and overseen by the GMs.

Ultimately, the goal was to have an RP on par with Ilium in terms of size and quality, but with a radically different premise revolving around a civil war/invasion scenario in which civilians are forced to fight to survive. The story would be kept strictly off the lines of something like Red Dawn, where normal people become insurgents overnight, and more along the lines of "These people have to do horrible things to one another in order to earn the chance of making it through this tragedy." At the end of the day, each character would be armed (hence twenty-one guns), but would not necessarily go around guns blazing. Emphasis would be placed upon conservation of resources, stealth, and especially on plot and character development instead of combat. Eventually, the story would culminate with the meetup of multiple groups as the fighting in the city escalates to unprecedented levels, and would end with the total destruction of the city via a clash between the military and the resident rebels (not the eponymous 21, but rather a background organization) warranting mass artillery assaults. It would be up to the discretion of the players whose characters survived. The Epilogue would constitute a meetup between the survivors of the incident, an exchange of stories, and a retrieval of the new group by a neutral third party (the Red Cross, the UN, etc.).

So far, I have done absolutely NOTHING to advance this story beyond my cranium, even though I wish I did.

My vision of my dream RP changes with the phases of the moon. More than a dream RP, I have different elements I enjoy. I enjoy anything that allows me to play as different species. I also enjoy creating a world as the RP progresses, rather than having it all mapped out at the start. What I want to RP changes a lot, because I have a hard time sticking to one idea. Which is admittedly a flaw I need to work on. I really like massive crossover roleplays, too.

There are a few ideas for 1x1 RPs that I've had in my head for a really, really long time. Such as a plot for an Ike (From Fire Emblem) x OC pairing that I really, really want to do.

I keep joining the wild west and they all keep going poof on me. Sighs. Love the pioneer days of this country. Some day one will stick.

Long-format sci-fantasy adventure. Oh man, I love stories with multiple arcs.

I've got a roleplay I want to run someday when I have more time to give to GMing. It would be a sci-fi-ish roleplay involving a couple different alien species in the middle of a (mostly) cold war, with Earth as sort of a neutral/oblivious territory. The main plot arc would follow a mixed species group on Earth who are solving the mystery of where their nobility are disappearing to, while side plots would take place on other planets among the governments of the various species, following the political strife that comes with cold wars.

That is a terrible summary, but it's the main roleplay I want to run someday. Well, that and a Firefly or X-Men AU.

One day, I'll run a roleplay in my original "Donegal" setting, as I established in my RP "Witch Hunt." This RP was ultimately a failure, because I don't think I was active or clear enough, and I don't necessarily think that I got people as hyped as I possibly should. It's a bit of a niche setting as a very low magic, very human-focused, grimdark world, with heavy focus on talking and puzzle solving. While those are the sorts of games that I enjoy, I realize that definitely doesn't appeal to everyone. One day, I'll try to make it more accessible, but who knows.

As a player, any kind of grimdark gritty fantasy setting works for me!

I'd love to one day start a neo-noir fantasy roleplay similar in size and scope to something like Illium or the Ascender Chronicles. It'd have multiple plotlines in a universe where supernatural beings of the world live in a hidden away community, somewhere up in Maine. Racism and corruption is rampant among the races, with the "classier" supernaturals living lavishly while the more barbaric races live in a literal dog-eat-dog poverty. In the middle of it all is the community's sole sheriff and his deputies who try not only to keep order within the inherently dysfunctional community but prevent humanity from discovering their existence.

Very Fables/Wolf Among Us-esque, I know. It's my shit though and I've been thinking of doing a smaller scale one for some time now.

I want to start one about my grim dark world, but so far I am stumble upon details.
