The courier reined in his high-strung steed, waiting anxiously for the coded signal from the distant bell tower that would set forth the nature of the attack – and then he gritted his teeth, summoning all his courage as the bell tolled twice, deep and booming.

One if by zombies, two if by teddy bears . . . gods help them all!

As a child, for any reason at all, Marsh clung to his white teddy bear, whose plush outside had been worn towards a hue of grey.

As a man, sometimes in the dead of night, when the loneliness and emptiness of his life overtook him, he knew that that little bear would be still the hug that he needed.

He slowly stood up, testing his soft, pudgy, and incredibly fuzzy legs, taking a couple of stiff steps when he was able to.

"I- I'm alive!" Mr. Teddy Tedderson exclaimed happily.

As the teenage girl reluctantly packed the scruffy brown bear into the box, she stared into his black eyes once more before shutting the box and setting it away for safe keeping; she felt ashamed for doing this to such an old friend of hers, knowing the bear must feel betrayed in that cramped box.

Ten years later, the box would open once again, and the girl would introduce her dear old friend to the infant wrapped in a pastel pink blanket, held securely in her left arm...

With a twist of her wrist and a pulse of the glowing tattoo of power on her left hand, she trapped his soul within the stuffed confines of yet another Captain America build-a-bear. Picking the teddy bear up gently, she then set it on a shelf in the room where she kept many more; all those who were foolish enough to come into her garden, looking for the golden swan.

Those round button eyes; that soft brown fur; the sweet, huggable body. When it comes to having a teddy bear, you are never alone and you are certainly never without a friend.

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, will you always be with me?

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, will you see for me?

The little girl looked up at him with her big sad forest green eyes then clutched the polar themed teddy bear that dwarfed her tiny size closer to her body biting her lip and thinking hard. "But I don't want too." He gave a terse sigh knelt then leveled her with a firm gaze of his own forest green eyes, she wasn't his daughter no his little sister and as such thought she had more leeway then she did. "We have too."

(Kinda cheated with the speech but forgive me?)

I held my teddy bear close to me and looked over at him and that night, the two of us made a promise to never leave each other. I never thought I would be the one to break the promise when I moved away to college without Mr. Snuggles.

Jenna smirked over at the girl seated beside her on the bus, her gaze lowered condescendingly. "I don't suppose you even know why they're called Teddy Bears, now do you?"

Loneliness came, and the rain patterned against her windows in a melancholy reminder of how empty she felt. So she hugged the old stuffed bear to her chest in an attempt to take comfort from it like she had when she was a child...but stuffing cannot fill the void of a broken heart.

The teddy bear stood up on the bed to look at the closet with squinted, beady eyes, a single paw on the bed posts.

"Come out, you bastard, I know you're in there," he muttered to the monster in the closet.
