Although my current design is to run this story as a small group, I always feel it is good policy to run my ideas by the interest check section. It helps me refine my ideas, gauge interest, and get feedback from other RPers. I greatly appreciate any insight that you can give.

Pretext

I made this story with the starting point as a theme. I wanted to make a story that makes a commentary on identity through the mechanics of the story rather than as a planned component of the plot. I wanted characters to have constant pressure on the way that they feel they fit into the world, and fit into their respective roles. After throwing together of a few of my favorite concepts together, this is the result.

Basic Premise

This story takes place ten years in the future following the ruin of the world. The cause was the birth of a demigod that unleashed the influence of chaos, a reality-bending energy, into the world. Following the emergence of chaos, nations fell, crops failed, systems crashed, monsters attacked, and an untold number of issues sent humanity back into the darkness. Under the influence of chaos, only small communities were possible. The world's population has fallen by 55%, disproportionately targeting the individuals with the most stabilizing influence. Distortions in reality are commonplace, crippling the effectiveness of the scientific method. People have largely turned to faith as a substitute, rather than supplement, to scientific rigor. Corruption has become the norm, as it seemed to be the only reliable way to build a fortune in a world where a fresh fruit could go rotten in the moment you attempt to swallow. For ten years, the influence of chaos has gone completely unchecked, but now, an unlikely hero has begun to fight back.

The very demigod whose birth gave rise to the influence of chaos has led the charge to reclaim the world from chaos. Using his powers, he formed contracts with a total of eight ten-year-old girls, and led them in the first ever battle against the chaos in Tokyo. These Miracle girls fought, and after a long bloody battle, Tokyo was secure. However, the wisdom of using young girls in a combat situation proved folly. Due to a breakdown in the chain of command, a critical lack of basic tactics, a lack of emotional maturity, and fear, all but one of the girls perished needlessly in battle near the start of the operation, leaving Midori, the one who lived, to take on the chaos singlehandedly.

Seeing the folly of his decision, the demigod came to the conclusion that rather than recruiting young girls, who were naturally better at channeling chaos, he could simply transform mature adults into young girls as part of the contract. With this new strategy in mind, the demigod leads his miracle girls in his campaign to eradicate the influence of chaos from the world.

Miracle Girls

Miracle girls are made through a contract with the demigod. Their bodies are made compatible with the influence of chaos, allowing them to use symbols of their own identity as a weapon against chaos. The more a symbol is reflective of the miracle girl using it, the more effective it is as a weapon. However, don't get comfortable with any one symbol. Due to the influence of chaos, Miracle Girls are particularly unstable. Using their powers causes them to change into entirely different people, which in turn means the need for new symbols to fight the chaos. Although the chaos can change aspects as deeply held and personal as memories and passions, the chaos cannot touch a miracle girl's memories (memories of things before she was a miracle girl are fair game), a miracle girl's age, and a miracle girl's sex. Additionally, the chaos cannot cause a change that would result in death or incapacitation. Furthermore, even if a magic girl is handicapped by chaos, she will become fully able if she transforms with a symbol. Everything else is subject to change through the influence of chaos. However, to compensate for the harsh demands of becoming a miracle girl, the demigod offers a single wish, should it be within his power.

1. How do miracle girls use symbols?
A. Miracle girls use symbols to transform into more powerful forms that are themed based on whatever symbol was used. Lots of creative freedom in their actual method of attack.
2. What sorts of limitations are there on the wish?
A. The demigod has no power over the nature of chaos. He can only change natural states. Also, while you can technically wish to modify an aspect of your character, it isn't advised since the wish can be undone with chaos.
3. Is the contract restricted to girls?
A. No. Anyone can form a contract once they prove they are emotionally mature, consenting, adults. Whoever they are, they will be transformed into a ten-year-old, female version of themselves.
4. Can symbols be used outside of combat?
A. Yes, but symbols are only powerful when used in the presence of chaos. In its absence, it can only change their appearance. Do note that they will slowly change even if they are using it aesthetically.
5. How will the chaos changing the characters work?
A. Mechanically, I'm not a hundred percent sure yet. I'm going to try just giving people creative liberty to do what they like. If your character used a powerful attack, was attacked, or spent a substantial amount of time in a transformation, then I'll likely prompt you to make a change to the character's CS. I recommend keeping versions of your character's CS so that you can recall how they've changed over the course of the RP. I'll be keeping a close eye on how smoothly this goes so I can introduce systems if needed.

The Story Structure

In this RP, we are going to follow the lives of the demigod and the miracle girls in two phases: Travel/event and Combat.

During the travel/event phase, we detail the interactions of our characters living their life between the fights. Even though fighting the chaos is a big part of their lives, downtime is extremely important to the miracle girls. It gives the girls time to make sense of the changes that have occurred, socialize with the other girls, discover new symbols, rest, and grapple with their inner demons. Occasionally, the girls will encounter events that drastically shake up how this phase is conducted. Events range from something as lighthearted as a festival to something as tragic as a kidnapping. Events exist, at least in part, to force the girls to evaluate their place in the world.

During the combat phase, the girls take the insights that they gained in the travel/event phase to clear a city of the influence of chaos. However, the chaos won't simply stand helplessly. Typically, chaos will defend itself by converting itself into a monster made of pure condensed chaos, a manifestation. These monsters range from mooks to raid bosses in terms of strength, and can take whatever form takes their fancy. The nature of these fights is going to change to suit the narrative. Occasionally these fights are going to be power fantasies where our girls defeat everything with their super cool powers. Other times they are going to be somber, seemingly hopeless struggles. And if anyone is brave enough, it can be a place for the girls to experience loss. Fighting the chaos is a unique and traumatic experience which only a miracle girl will ever truly understand. This phase should exemplify this quality.

The World Under Chaos

Having endured the chaos, the world has become a much different place. Rather than settling down, people have been rewarded for engaging in a nomadic lifestyle. Since the chaos is only efficient in tearing down well-established areas, a lifestyle emphasizing not being tied down or invested in anything has sprung up. Due to this, the chaos disproportionately devastated the wealthy and powerful, who were less willing to give up what they spent their life building. Ironically, the black market dealers have become the new upper class due to running operations that were spread out, loosely connected, and easily abandonable. In order to gain power, many have shown a surprisingly humanitarian side, offering employment in a world where most people must fend for themselves. Those who joined gained stability, while the bosses gained influence, legitimacy, and control. However, since the chaos presents a great threat to large communities, these arrangements usually are quite exclusive and coveted. The communities are quite cult-like due to the immense power held by the bosses, the relative privilege that comes with membership, and the significant threat of being outed from the group. The result often seems to be tribalism, but the exact formations tend to vary on which part of the world you happen to be in.

One of the challenges presented to the girls is having to live in this world. They need to find a method of transportation between battles, a source of food, and to always remain wary of strangers. While it might sometimes be tempting or necessary to rely on the kindness of strangers, it could prove even more dangerous than a manifestation. After all, how is a ten-year-old girl to hold their own against a fully grown adult?

Character Sheet
This character sheet is going to be fairly intense due to the nature of the RP. I'm expecting people to put forth a lot of effort into these since they are going to be one of my indicators for how well you are suited for this sort of RP. Since we are going to be making changes to the design of the characters all the time, I want to see that people are able to make characters whose motivations are realistic, compelling, fleshed-out, and relatable. But, as a twist, I'm going to be having everyone hide the non-physical components of the CS from public view. Hopefully, this will encourage everyone to show off their characterization skillz.

But College doesn't give rest for the weary. I'll work on it after class.

*WIP, more to come*

Thank you for the praise. I'm still fleshing this out, but if you have any questions, have cool ideas, or want me to add sections to this interest check, just let me know. I already know that you are a big fan of magic girls from our time together in Elite, so I'm glad to see I'm attracting a similar audience. Maybe I'll send a link to some of the other members.

Hm, I can imagine a creep wanting to take the body of a young girl for, ahem, reasons and then get in way over his head over the miracle girl system. Anyway, this looks interesting and I can't wait to see more of it!

It is funny because I already had one person Skype me about this very idea about an hour after I launched the idea.

>.< Welp, you have my interest! I have a few ideas of how to set up a character in this sort of setting, but this will probably mark my very first experience in the Magical Girl realm, RP and lore wise I guess, but it was a train I was hoping to hop on at some point, so I suppose this might be a good place to do so.

I'll sink my teeth in.

Well, I'm always happy to see familiar faces. I'm looking forward to RPing with you again York-chan. I know you are a quiet one, but I'm always here if you need me.

Wow, this concept is seriously popular... It hasn't even been a day and I have enough people to justify launching OOC. I honestly wasn't prepared for this kind of reception.

I understand >.< I guess I just pop in whenever I can xD I uh... I guess I just have a weird habbit of only really saying stuff when directly messaged or something, so there's that, and I suppose I'll keep you in mind though if I do need to talk xS

@Wolfsbane706 @chaosheart13 @Sailor Moon @Craftsdwarf @Crow And anyone else who wants to leave feedback.

So, now that a good number of people are here, I wanted to hear opinions about a few of the options for this RP.

First consideration, do you want these girls to be a different age? I picked 10 arbitrarily, but as far as what I have planned goes, they could probably be as old as 14.

Second consideration, do you want these girls to be sexually mature? I'm not saying that this would be a mature RP, but I'm aware that often magic girl stories have yuri themes. If these are popular, I want to allow people to have little romances. But also, I want to know how many people might be scared off by the idea of young girls hooking up with each other (even if they were once adults).

Third consideration, I wrote the demigod so that he could potentially be played by another player. That is why he was left unnamed and only key characteristics were described. Would you feel comfortable with a non-GM having a character like this? Would you want to play the demigod?

Final consideration, what should be the weekly expectation for posting? I originally wanted to do this RP as a small group so I could request a fairly quick pace. I can imagine myself wanting to post here three times a week, but I'd be willing to go down to as little as one a week. Regardless, a major change from my usual method, this RP is going to be an asynchronous phased turn system. In other words, you get to post as often as you like, but once I post the beginning of the next phase, everything in the previous phase gets wrapped up.

Then to conclude, I have some questions for everyone that will help me finish out my design.

1. How much do you enjoy character design?
2. How self-directed are you? Do you like it better when others make all the events for your characters to respond to, or do you prefer being the master of your own destiny merely running ideas by me to make sure they fit in the context of the narrative?
3. If you had to pick one thing, what is the most attractive part of this RP?
4. Are you prepared to be extremely active with your castmates? I think a major theme of my style of RPing is that it is very much a social event. Talking about the plot, our plans, the characters, and the larger importance of what is happening is critical to getting the full experience. We will be writing several collaborative works, so this is your chance to tell me if all this makes you uncomfortable.
5. Is there anything you think I should know that hasn't yet been said that would help me improve this RP?

I feel like the first two considerations are inverse to each other. I personally don't prioritize the romance element, but I'm not adverse to it either. As far as age goes, I'm personally leaning towards the younger side: partly because my character was conceived with that in mind, though she will work if older. Though it's also because I feel that the characters being in younger bodies might be more interesting because it's unusual. Middle/High School ages are more common so I'm kind of interested as to what ideas will come from the change. That said, it is more limiting: four elementary schoolers running around is going to turn more heads than four middle schoolers. I think the limits are interesting to work within but they could also make the RP tougher to actually write.

As for the last consideration, I post 'when able'. A few times a week should be fine, especially towards the weekends, at least. May be more though.

As for the questions:

1. The aspect of the characters having pieces of them changing often (or the setting for that matter) is certainly interesting and I'm curious to see how the characters will react to that. I'm also wondering how it will be handled from a writing standpoint but I'm sure we'll figure it out.
2. It depends on my character, but I've been trying to push towards making more active characters if only to avoid the 'everyone's passive and nothing's happening' pitfall. My current character could go either way.
3. The concept is interesting but loose enough that it has a lot of potential. I'm hoping for some great characters to bounce off of.
4. I do plenty of collab posts, but not a whole lot of OOC unless poked.
5. Nothing springs to mind. In Luna I trust.

Well, age is no biggie xD I suppose 10-14 is a decent range, I'm flexible when it comes to that. Oh and uh, I suppose romance is something I usually go with the flow with x.x do what is... Natural to a character I play, so I wouldn't mind romance if it is an option I guess. As for the demigod thing? I suppose I can work with someone playing the demigod that is not a GM, though I suppose the matter will then arise of well, finding someone who is willing and suitable for the role. As for the posting expectations? Well, I guess I'm also flexible with those, but well, my posting rates are often a post per day, maybe more if I have the time.

Now, I suppose for the numbered questions;

1) I usually have a picture to work off of as a "base", but I thoroughly enjoy designing and creating a character, and well, turning them loose to see how they develop later on.

2) Guess I'm a bit of both... Usually I like to be able to respond to events set in place by others, but on occasion, I may have ideas that can allow me to "solo" a few plot arcs, but well... Those are fleeting things, so I may not do this too often.

3) Difficult to say >.< but I'm leaning towards the magical girl adventure thing with a darker twist, since as I mentioned before, I've longed to jump into the genre at some point.

4) Oooh! Being active with castmates are well, something I really like xD though sometimes I "lone wolf" my characters, I usually prefer to have my character interact with the rest of the cast in one way or another, as it often gives me more substance to work with with my posts x.x even if I sometimes take a bit to make them. Collaborative works are also something I am open to as long as I have the time for em.

5) Er... Not that I can think of, though I suspect I may have a few questions during my character creation process.

Wow, this sounds super cool! Count me in.

For the age, I think the range you have right now (10-14) is fine. I think that something to consider is whether or not a character's physical strength will be limited by the size/age of their body.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with yuri, but I'm totally fine with it happening. After all, the characters are technically adults, even if they don't look it.

I really don't mind who plays the demigod. I'm not that interested in playing him myself, but to anyone who wants to - go for it!

As for posting expectations, I can manage up to a couple times a week, but probably not any more than that. I'll be a lot busier once school starts, so I don't want to make any promises I can't keep.

1. I'm seriously super stoked to create and play a character in this setting, with the chaos thing and all. Really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out!
2. Like @Craftsdwarf , it depends on my character. I'll probably be a bit more passive at first just to see how everything works so I don't embarrass myself .
3. Honestly, the whole concept is great! It's definitely a lot more thought-out than most magical girl roleplays.
4. I haven't done a lot of collab posts in the past, but I'd really like to start doing that. I think that being active in the OOC is pretty important (at least for me) because I feel that roleplaying with friends is a lot more enjoyable, especially if the roleplay lasts for a long time.
5. Hmm. Nope.

1. I can't draw too well, but I damn well love describing it.

2. A mix of both, but mostly the former.

3. Since we have limited information about this RP, the fact that it is a magical girl RP. That's what attracted me here anyways.

4. I can do that.

5. Keep the cast small. That's what I do.

Honestly, 10 is fine. I have to agree with @Craftsdwarf about the age thing, middle school and high schoolers are more common in magical girl genres so it would be refreshing to have an elementary school kid fight.

Sexually mature? Hm, I don't mind there being romance but the wording here is making me confused.

Honestly I would prefer the demigod to be played by the GM, it wouldn't be fair to others if there's only one demigod slot and that ends up being taken by a non GM.

For posting expectations, I can do twice a week, I think once to three times a week is a good enough range for posting.

1. I don't mind it at all, creating characters can be a fun process.
2. I'm flexible with the GM laying out events for us or us running ideas right by the GM.
3. I think the most attractive thing about an rp is being able to interact with others, it's always fun to talk with others about the plot and our characters.
4. Yeah, I'm prepared.
5. Mm, can't think of anything.

I'm interested as well.

I'd advocate for expanding the age range to 10-14.

1. How much do you enjoy character design?

A lot. I try to target my characters to have atypical power sets.

2. How self-directed are you? Do you like it better when others make all the events for your characters to respond to, or do you prefer being the master of your own destiny merely running ideas by me to make sure they fit in the context of the narrative?

Very self-directed. Ask @Crow. I prefer to run ideas by the GM, but I can also go with the flow as far as any major GM-related events.

3. If you had to pick one thing, what is the most attractive part of this RP?

Dark Magical Girls.

4. Are you prepared to be extremely active with your castmates? I think a major theme of my style of RPing is that it is very much a social event. I generally post daily to every other day and work on collabs with other players to make a stronger narrative, so yes. Pretty active.

Ten is a bit young for my tastes as I do enjoy romance, even if it is just very light yuri themes. I'd probably be good with 13-14.

Answered this a little above.

I'll probably only post 1-2 times a week, tbh. It's possible I'll do more, but I'll always post at least once a week, unless specified.

1. How much do you enjoy character design?

I likes it a lot.

I'm undecided on this, as I like a mix of both. Being able to pitch my ideas for my character, but also when someone else comes to me and says they have plans for my character is exciting. :)

3. If you had to pick one thing, what is the most attractive part of this RP?

The magical girl aspect. Very attractive indeed.

4. Are you prepared to be extremely active with your castmates? I think a major theme of my style of RPing is that it is very much a social event. I range from talkative to extreme lurker, so I'm not sure. Of course if someone wants to speak, I'm usually willing.

5. Is there anything you think I should know that hasn't yet been said that would help me improve this RP?

I think all of this sounds lovely. Thanks for the tag. I'm not entirely sure whether I'll join or not, yet! Most likely will join.

Basically I'm saying that they could actually feel sexual tension and other forms of "motivatation" to engage in romance, despite it being unrealistic for such a young body to have such things.
