Long-Ranged Weapon Form
Today we are going to do an exercise on creating a long-ranged weapon. We will use my detailed template to fill it out and see what kind of long-ranged weapon you can make! Here we go!

The definition of a long-ranged weapon is as follows:
A ranged weapon is any weapon that can harm targets at distances greater than hand-to-hand distance- "Wikipedia"
This includes known weapons such as:
Guns, Slingshots, Bow and Arrows, Crossbow, Catapult even.
Our mission is too make a weapon that may resemble these already made ones, but is completely different!

Form:

Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern? This depends on what story/universe the weapon is going to be used in. If it's a place where it's far into the future, I would think that it would be modern or post-modern.
Does your weapon run on an energy source?
How is it used?
Is it heavy or light weight?
Can it be easily hidden?
What is the primary purpose of it?
Secondary purpose?
What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?
What is it made of?
Who would use it?
How old is it?
What genre would it be from?
Fantasy, Horror, Sci-fi, etc
Does it resemble a real weapon?

Alright! We have our form now let's fill it out!

Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern?
--
It's set in a post-modern world known as Kristur.
Does your weapon run on an energy source?
--
It absorbs energy from the environment; plants, animals, persons, it takes it from any living being.
How is it used?
--
It's an small cube embed with magic energy combined with technology, when the user activates the weapon it starts gathering energy, when the weapon is full of energy it proceeds to change it's form to other thing, it haves 3 different forms besides the cube one; one is like a small gun that shoots energy waves, the second one is a glove that gathers energy in the palm of the user (This energy can be used as a shield), and the last one it resembles a bow.
Is it heavy or light weight?
--
It weights less than 3 pounds in all it's forms.
Can it be easily hidden?
--
Yes, it's very small and haves the shape of a cube
What is the primary purpose of it?
--
It was originally made for guards in a spacial base in the Venom galaxy planet 2, the habitants of that planet are very hostile creatures.
Secondary purpose?
--
After the Venom galaxy was abandoned, this weapon was taken by thieves and rogues, it was used to assault different space ships and planets.
What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?
--
In the gun form it haves a range of 200 meters, in the glove form this number is reduced to only 65 meters, in the bow form the value is increased to 400 meters.
What is it made of?
--
It's made with an alloy of different metals like iron and silver, but it also haves some minerals from Venom galaxy planet 1, 2 and 4 with some magical runes.
Who would use it?
--
It was normally used by high ranked guards, but it's now used by rogues and thieves.
How old is it?
--
This weapon was made in the year 2115, we are actually in the year 2257, so this kind of weapon is 142 years old, it was made when the humans started experimenting with the "Outer" minerals, the alchemy was in it's golden age in those times.
What genre would it be from?
--Modern fantasy and Sci-Fi
Does it resemble a real weapon?
--
It resembles 3 real weapons: Gun, Glove, Bow

Name: Wings SR-09

Class: Standard Rifle (SR)

Chambered For: 12.7x99mm rounds

Design Circa: OCY 30/AD 2576

Main Service: HU Duohuman Corps

Side Service: HU MSTs (Mobile Strike Teams), ADOM crews and the Android Corps.

Description: the SR-09 is a pistol-like weapon with an abnormally long barrel and atypical loading from a magazine slot placed just in front of the trigger; the weapon is a gas-operated, semi-automatic, slide-cocking weapon designed for the exclusive use of Duohumans, who are the only ones who can handle the recoil from such a weapon without a stock or tripod of any kind. while not very accurate over long ranges, the SR-09 is designed to be devastating at close to mid range, with every bit of it's design going towards putting as much energy into the bullet as possible, and has been known to leave bowling ball shaped holes in the people and objects that it hits. the drawback of such a large weapon is it's lack of stealth or possibiity of concealment, but the gunsmiths that designed it no doubt assumed that if you're going in with a pistol chambered in .50 caliber rounds, concealment and stealth are the least of your worries. the weapon is constructed out of mostly carbon fiber and Titanium alloys to decrease weight, but the guard that covers the entire grip is customarily made out of reinforced tungsten so that it can be used as a bludgeoning weapon without the risk of bending the guard and making the weapon unusable. despite it's short range and very specific use, the weapon still has three built-in equipment rails.
the calssification of the weapon in regards to the time line is debatable; while it was designed during the time of post-modern Earth, it was also designed during the time of Modern OCY/Osrisis, though it is generally accepted as a contemporary ballistic weapon.

the HU military academy is known for keeping a single, ancient, well-maintained SR-09 for the use of overconfident trainees, who are typically sent to the medics shortly afterward with severe concussions from an "unknown cause". while this method is not officially sanctioned by HU, the general quality and intelligence of any remaining trainees has been observed to take a sudden, dramatic rise of 25-30% after anyone stupid enough to try their hand fires the SR-09, and is subsequently dismissed.

Name; The "Bram Staker"

Use; Vampire hunting

Techlevel; Hight tech.
Fire rate; 1/3.33 S/S. (stakes/seconds)
Ammuntion; Gauss propelled stakes, 7x40 cm.

The Bram Staker, named such by the ever so clever lads at Kill Corps RND department, is a vampire obliterator. This high capacity, 3rd generation stake rifle uses a a gauss propelling system. With a 100 cm barrel and the power of the High Frequency Coil Chamber, it can fire a stake at speeds of 700 m/s, but with only half the recoil of a conventional, gunpowder based weapon. Fitted with a revolver like loading mechanism, the Staker allows for three steel stakes to be loaded at once, with a semi automatic fire rate at 3 stakes in 10 seconds. Made in titanuim and high grade, industrial plastic, the weapon is very lightweight for its size.

Warning; The Bram Staker should not be used for Ghoul Hunting.

Name: Fiery Bolter
Description: A five centimetre wide, 40 centimetre long Bolter. It has a spot for small crank on the side which is used to wind up the bolt, which you put on seperately.
Description: The bolt is about 35 cm long with small cuts in the side for where the slate can go. It is adjusted to look like a regular arrow
Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern?
Its in a completely different world, but pre-modern I guess
Does your weapon run on an energy source?
No, it works on high powered springs. You do need to wind it up though
How is it used?
It is a small wooden structure with a bottom and top pulled back a little and a slide in area for a bolt. Inside there is a spring. You push it as far back in as possible, then push the crank to the side, which will cramp it into position. For maximum speed and distance you wind it as much as you can, then underneath you push up a small slate in to hold the bolt in place. Pull the crank out and then aim and shoot. The bolt will go into the body, and will seep a small amount an insanely flammable oil into the victims blood stream. When a lot of the people rush over to help pull the arrow out, it is designed to clank metal together and make a spark, exploding the body
Is it heavy or light weight?
It is lightweight and easy to carry around
Can it be easily hidden?
Yes, and coats are designed to easily hide it
What is the primary purpose of it?
It was designed by the small kingdom of Valai to quickly infiltrate the city. It used for stealthily killing as much people as possible
Secondary purpose?
Not really anything else. It is designed to be used for all different types of situations
What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?
It takes 40 seconds and strength to wind it up to full power, and then it can shoot for 300 metres
What is it made of?
Wood, and the bolts made of metal, wood and oil
Who would use it?
Maybe assassins, stealthily invading. It is not a common weapon so it could be anyone with the intent of quickly wiping out a bunch of people, terrorists even
How old is it?
A century since it was first created, slowly it became more popular in the small Eastern towns, until a Southerner civilisation used it in combat. Now it is dangerous weapon and known by the eastern side of the south, but still rare.
What genre would it be from?
Its a different world, but fantasy I suppose

Form:

Name

Stellar Arbalest

Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern?

Hard to say, both pre and post modern in its construction.

Does your weapon run on an energy source?

Yes, a stellar engine built into the weapon, which provides motive power to the engines that pull the carbon nano-tube bowstring back.

How is it used?

Its a tricked out crossbow with an optional scope attachment. Used as such. It shoots an entire arrow made from solid metal, often tungsten or depleted uranium.

Is it heavy or light weight?

This long and heavy crossbow fills the role of sniping weapon and is a fearsome killer of Tactical Knights. It masses a good 7 kilos unloaded and each arrow is almost half a kilo!

Can it be easily hidden?

No, absolutely not.

What is the primary purpose of it?

To take out enemy Tactical Knights or to assassinate leaders at long range.

Secondary purpose?

It can slay many space beasts or be used to attack peasant levies (though it is overkill for such).

What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?

Depends on the bow and arrow used as well as local conditions. On earth using tungsten arrows it typically has a maximum effective range of about 500-600 meters. Steel arrows can be somewhat faster and reach 600-750 meters under such conditions. In space or in places like Mars or Luna its range increases.

What is it made of?

The bow itself is made primarily from reinforced nano-composites with the bowstring being made out of carbon nano-tubes.

Who would use it?

The Holy Space Empire is particularly fond of having crossbow troops that use this weapon. These bows are also used to lesser extents by other space empires like Mars of the Rising Sun.

How old is it?

A recent weapon by all accounts, shrinking a stellar engine into such a compact package required a new method, which was stumbled on by the star-smith Colbert the Black some 150 years ago. To this day only highly skilled star-smiths are able to make these weapons.

What genre would it be from?

A space fantasy but with modern tactical and other science buzzword techs mixed in.

Does it resemble a real weapon?

Yes, its a highly tricked out crossbow.

Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern?
Pre-Modern
Does your weapon run on an energy source?
It requires mana to operate, whether from someone capable of channeling it, or a mana crystal slotted into a small divot near the top
How is it used?

Making a half-circle gesture launches a single fireball about the size of a watermelon that explodes on impact but has little kinetic force. A full circle motion launches a much larger fireball, roughly three feet in diameter that explodes out to a twenty foot radius. Making a zig-zag motion shoots a bolt of lightning from the tip in a straight line, hitting anything in its path out to sixty feet. Stabbing the staff into the ground creates an explosion of pure kinetic force strong enough to knock back human-sized targets five feet.
Is it heavy or light weight?

Light, it weighs roughly three pounds
Can it be easily hidden?

Unless you can make the "It's my walking stick" excuse work, nope. It's a long staff, six feet in length, and made from a combination of wood reinforced by steel, and topped with a sun motif that resembles a mace.
What is the primary purpose of it?

A quick and dirty artillery weapon for mages that don't have time to chant or use more complicated spells. The advent of a slot for mana crystals enabled non-mages trained in its use to make a huge impact in battles.
Secondary purpose?

It can be used as a quarterstaff in a pinch, or a long mace of sorts, since the sun-motif at the top is quite capable of bashing in someone's skull, though few mages have the physique to make use of this part.
What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?

The lightning, out to sixty feet.
What is it made of?

A wooden core, reinforced and topped by steel with a sun motif
Who would use it?

Mages on the front line, mainly, but non-mages can use it as well, provided they have a mana crystal handy.
How old is it?

Pretty new. It was created by a court mage at the behest of his Lord during a desperate war they were losing badly. One of his assistants came up with the idea of using mana crystals so that others could use it, and both men were basically ejected from the politically neutral Mage's Guild for making it usable by non-mages. There aren't very many of them, relatively speaking, but the court mage and his assistant are cranking out more of them as fast as they can. It's turned the tide of the war for their nation, and could very easily give them a dominating presence on the continent. The King has already commissioned them to come up with yet more terrifying arcane implements.
What genre would it be from?
Fantasy
Does it resemble a real weapon?
It's a staff, with the head of it looking sort of like a mace if you squint.

Weapon name: The Nanosimulator ("Nanosim" for short)

Is your weapon pre-modern missile, modern, or post-modern?

Post-modern

Does your weapon run on an energy source?

The Nanomites are stored in a container that also holds a Portal Core that is harnessed to recharge the Nanomites as needed, with the benefit of providing nigh-infinite energy for recharging as needed.

How is it used?

Someone working the Nanosim could configure it into a melee weapon or nonlethal gadgets, but in the context of a ranged weapon, the Container must be opened and the Handle's tip must make contact with the Nanoplasm, otherwise it doesn't work properly. Once the two make contact, a holographic interface will open up with a series of commands. The Nanoplasm will automatically configure itself into the programmed arrangement, donating only the moderate amount needed to make a blueprint work. Someone could add new configurations either by downloading blueprints or using the Handle's scanner to scan a weapon or gadget or designing a blueprint on the Handle's holographic interface (provided the blueprint is functionally plausible). A complete configuration can be worked by simply pulling the trigger on the Handle, which will discharge the plasma in a weak, decaying forcefield that breaks instantly if it hits an object.

Is it heavy or light weight?

The Nanosim's weight depends on the Container's size and the mass of the Nanoplasm contained within. No matter what type of Nanomite one is referring to, they are all almost weightless individually, the Handle at most weighs no more than a small cell-phone. The Configurations' weight values also tend to vary depending on the amount of available Nanotech and the blueprint used.

Can it be easily hidden?

The Handle can be easily concealed. A small Container can be concealed, but the many different Container variations make this variable.

What is the primary purpose of it?

The primary purpose of the Nanosim is to give combatants a weapon that adapts to the changing conditions of a battlefield. It is designed to detect allies of the User and enemies, which includes providing estimates of their body condition, armor, and weapons for the User to prepare for. It is literally the weapon for every occasion (within reason).

Secondary purpose?

The Nanosim can be used as a replacement for tools and gadgets if one has the blueprint and Nanoplasm for the tool or gadget in question. It can also be used for melee weapons as long as the above conditions are met.

What's the farthest distance you can be for it to still work?

Variable depending on configuration. The plasma bullets do have a semi-limited range in that the weak forcefield could decay fast enough and the plasma harmlessly dissipates into the environment, though that depends on the amount of energy needed to charge a forcefield to hold the plasma to match the range of a configuration's blueprint/statistics.

What is it made of?

The Nanosim has two main parts: The Handle & the Container. The Handle is a small hand-held device used for commanding the Nanomites to arrange themselves into a programmed configuration, it also has a Portal Core that allows it to channel plasma into the configuration in a predetermined pattern. The Container, a cylinder roughly the size of a soda-can, itself isn't part of the configuration, but is used to store the Nanotech inside both to protect the Nanomites and recharge them. Variants of the Container can include a suitcase-like, back-mounted version for holding larger amounts of Nanoplasm.

The Nanomites are divided into a few different types: The "Zoolets" find resources to aid other Nanomites and eliminate acellular particulate; The "Phylets" collect the energy radiated from the Portal Core and serve as mobile batteries; The "Foglets" serve as large-scale builders that build via combining with each other to form various shapes, such as the frame for a rifle; The "Drones" primarily focus on repair and construction of Nanomites; The "Warriors" are designed to defend the Nanoplasm as a whole; The "Queens" are the commanding force for the Nanoplasm and are designed to transfer data between the various other types.

The Nanomites themselves are constructed from steel/platinum/titanium nanoparticles for the shell, with gold/silver/copper nanoparticles forming the circuitry protected within the shell. Carbon nanotubes are used for conducting the energy needed to power the Nanomite. The Nanomites themselves are 0.1 nanometers in size, large enough to be seen under a microscope.

Who would use it?

In the setting the weapon is found in, anyone could. Primarily, it is used where conventional firearms can't get the job done and any other weapon is impractical or useful only under specific circumstances.

How old is it?

In the setting, the Nanosim was invented around 3 years after the Void Transcendence (A significant event in the setting) and the Stelliferous Era, but the first blueprints date back to the Information Age (21st Century).

What genre would it be from?

Science Fantasy/Science Fiction

Does it resemble a real weapon?

Yes and No. The Nanosim in its base form(s) has no resemblance to any real-life weapons. Some of the blueprints for it do however.
