[Samuel x Roman]

Matthew didn't even react to all the spot on burns he was receiving which only added to the hilarity when his eyes widened in surprise at Roman's comment. His expression then turned into a slightly angry looking frown and he glared at Roman as he spoke.

"Okay, look, I know you're just saying that because you want me to react to it because you obviously don't agree with what you just said, because while the movies aren't bad they certainly aren't better than the books and anyone who has read them is aware of that," Matthew's voice started out in his normal kind of flat tone, possibly a little upset and by the time he continued he actually sounded genuinely riled up, not in an overly emotional way, but in one that clearly couldn't be considered flat anymore, "But that is also why you shouldn't even joke about it? It's not even funny! They removed like all of Hermione's flaws? And reduced Ginny to nothing but being in love with Harry and—"

"Holy shit that actually worked," Delilah said, sounding impressed. In the background, both Gabi and Evan was laughing.

"Of course, it did, no one can say such an outrageous thing in front of Matthew," Samuel said in a slightly teasing tone. Matthew had now stopped his rant and his cheeks were a little pink since he had played into the whole thing perfectly without even intending it. Samuel decided it was only fair to defend his friend at least a little, so he placed his hands on Roman's cheeks and squished them together a little, "He is right though, Roman, how dare you even joke about something so untrue,"

r o m a n
Roman couldn't help but grin when he was successful, because it was very funny and he was happy to have gotten some emotion out of Matthew, even if it was just a little. "Hey, you know I don't mean it, and I agree with everything he said," Roman defended himself, his voice sounding muffled through his squished cheeks.

"Still, it's basically blasphemy," said Elliot, though he was very clearly joking, with a mouth full of pizza.

"Chew with your mouth closed, you animal."

"No." Elliot flipped him off and then kissed Tilly on the cheek. "Tilly. My sweetest, most beautiful wife, the one I love most in the world. You should tell Roman to go and fuck himself."

"Tilly is incapable of saying anything so mean, she is an angel," Bella insisted.

s a m u e l

For a moment Matilda just looked at Roman with the sweetest and most innocent expression before she opened her mouth and let out the words, "Go fuck yourself Roman,"

Gabi let out a dramatic gasp. Delilah looked at the tiny woman I disbelief. Evan let out a half laughing, "No way," with just as much food in his mouth as Elliot had had. He was a lost cause. Samuel was glad that while Roman loved food, he at least had some manners regarding it. He loved his husband a lot. Which was also why his reaction to Tilly's statement, which clearly was all for laughs, was to pull a very offended expression and move his hands from Roman's face to wrap his arms protectively around him.

"Don't be mean to my husband," Samuel said, "He doesn't deserve it,"

"yeah you're right, I'm sorry Roman, I had to say it because Elliot was giving me such nice compliments," Tilly giggled, and Kissed Elliot's cheek back. The apology and how sweet she was with her husband just compared that he truly was an angel no matter what, "Don't go fuck yourself, I take it back,"

r o m a n
Everyone was so shocked by Matilda insulting Roman that Elliot actually said, "Fuck, that was so weird I almost regret asking you to do it."

"Almost?" Roman asked.

"Yeah, it was still pretty funny. How are your feelings?"

"Just fine. If I have to be told to go fuck myself by anyone I'd like it to be Tilly, she's very adorable."

The large group continued to eat pizza and have fun and socialise. After a while, Roman cleared all the pizza plates, dumped them into the sink because he couldn't be bothered doing them just yet, and then brought out dessert. The first tray had eight different desserts all baked together — a brownie square, one of s'mores, one of apple pie and one of pumpkin pie, one cheesecake, one chocolate chip cookie section, one of MnM cookie and one final section made of blueberry tart. Each section was separated by fences made of sweetened biscuits. He had also baked a vegan apple pie for Gabi, and brought it out with the other dessert tray.

"Oh my Lord," Elliot let out as Roman set the desserts onto the coffee table and everyone could see his masterpiece.

"I take that as a compliment. Okay, everyone, dig in and don't kill each other. Unfortunately I couldn't make most of these vegan, so I made you an apple pie, sorry, Gabi, I hope that's okay."

"Don't worry about it, seriously, I'm just really happy you make me some stuff at all, it's really nice of you," Gabi said, sounding sincere and a lot more serious than normal, presumably so Roman would know she truly meant it.

"If I could help out with the cooking there'd totally be more of it for you, but as you all know I am incapable of making food, and Roman gotta spend all his time making the food," Samuel chuckled, slightly apologetically. He looked over at the tray with all the nice food, and was just a little proud of his husband. He thought it was so hard to cook and bake he had no idea how Roman could do it.

"Maybe you should learn how to do it," Delilah pointed out laughing, she was probably the one who was the least exposed to Samuel's terrible cooking.

"See I would, but I don't think you understand how bad I am, and I don't want to give Harper burnt food because it isn't healthy," Samuel explained, "and the only thing I can make decently is like pasta, and just eating pasta isn't healthy either,"

"You should go vegan then you can eat whatever and pretend it's healthy, even though it isn't" Gabi joked as she helped herself to a slice of the vegan pie. She wasn't the kind of person who pushed her diet onto other people, but she did joke around about the concept of pushing it onto people, which Samuel thought was pretty funny.

"Vegan food is even more difficult to make," Samuel pointed out as he reached out for a brownie, he knew this only because she and Roman had informed him of this, "Plus, I can't go vegan, Roman is too picky," he added the last part as a joke, and pulled Roman in to come sit in his lap again, despite the teasing.

"Excuse me, Samuel, you're making me sound like a bad husband, if you wanted to go vegan I would happily facilitate your newfound diet." Roman put a small slice of each of the flavours from the dessert tray onto a napkin, enough that he could get a taste from each but also so everyone else could, and then climbed into his husband's lap.

"But you wouldn't go vegan?" Elliot inquired.

"That's a stupid question. I think I'm literally unable to go vegan."

"Yeah, you have your steak, like, rare," Bella commented.

"True."

"Weird."

"Fight me, Elissa."

"Nah, this is just proof you're a vampire." Elissa poked Matthew on the cheek. "Hey, Matthew, our theory is correct, Roman's a vampire."

"You can't coin that theory, Elissa, everyone thinks he's a vampire," Blake noted.

s a m u e l

Samuel nodded in agreement with Blake, keeping a very serious expression, because the Roman being a vampire theory was so commonly accepted that no one could claim it as their own.

"Yeah and I don't just think he's a vampire," Samuel said in a voice as he was saying an absolute and true fact, "I happen to know he's a vampire. He has bitten me in an attempt to snack on my blood on multiple occasions and he sleeps through all sun hours of the day,"

"It is true I can confirm, I have seen Roman bite him more times than I should," Evan said, and pulled a grimace and then added, "And look at how pale he is, total vampire. Thinking he is a human is more of a theory than thinking he's a vampire,"

"Hang on, if Roman is a vampire, does that mean London is one as well or was Roman turned on a separate occasion?" Tilly inquired and curiously peered over at London as if they were actually talking about something that wasn't at all made up.

r o m a n
"Hang on, I thought we were roasting Matthew tonight, it was decided upon, like, hours ago," Roman complained. No one seemed to hear him.

"I am not a vampire," London confirmed. "Roman must have been turned at some point after we were born, and since I can't put a finger on when he started being weird and biting people, I can't tell you exactly when. Probably around our teens though."

"Hang on, Roman's a haemophiliac, so maybe he has to drink blood as like a supplement," Bella suggested. Usually no one joked about his haemophilia, since it was such a sad topic and one that Roman didn't like to draw attention to if he could help it, but this was one of the few occasions where he didn't mind, so the joking mood of the room was not damaged.

"Roman, do tell, are you secretly a vampire?" Elliot asked, waggling his eyebrows in Roman's general direction.

Roman did not answer. He simply stared at Elliot with a deadpan and unwavering gaze as he leaned closer to his husband and slowly pulled one of the sleeves of his shirt down. Then, he looked away from Elliot very quickly and playfully bit his husband's shoulder, to the laughter of their guests, but also didn't let go, like a shark or a crocodile clinging to its prey.

s a m u e l

"Ow, godammit Elliot look at what you got him to do," Samuel complained half-heartedly and slapped Roman gently on the head, but honestly it was more of a petting motion because he didn't have the heart to slap him. The whole biting thing was pretty cute. Though it did hurt a little.

"Okay Roman they get it,
" Samuel said and pushed a little on his head more but Roman seemed pretty hell bent on biting his harm to prove himself as a vampire, "you're a vampire, stop biting me,"

"You know what, I take it back, maybe he isn't a vampire, maybe he's just really fucking weird," Evan pointed out.

"No don't call him weird, he isn't weird," Samuel said, despite Roman currently acting really weird, it just wasn't weird behaviour for him, "He's really cute, he's my cute vampire husband."

"You can't say a twenty-seven-year-old grown ass man biting someone isn't a little weird," Evan insisted, "Roman, please spit Samuel out so you can tell us you're in fact a little weird,"

Glad to have gotten the reaction he wanted, Roman finally released Samuel, making a big show out of kissing the bite mark and then carefully covering it up with the shirt, before nuzzling Samuel's shoulder a little and finally looking over at Evan. "Sorry, what was that? I was too busy being a vampire to care about your worthless human opinion."

"Ooooh," London teased her husband, jokingly shoving him. "Get wrecked kid."

"I don't think Roman is capable of wrecking anyone right now, we all know about his weird biting obsession and can now judge him hard," Elliot insisted.

Roman just flipped him off.

Soon, all the desserts had eaten, they had talked and bickered some more, and now it was almost midnight, and they had the news on TV, which would soon be airing the Melbourne New Years' Eve fireworks show. Everyone was sitting facing the TV, and all the couples were close together, so they could share a New Years' kiss when the clock struck twelve. Blake was sitting next to Gabi in what she was jokingly calling the 'Single Bubble'. Roman was glad that they didn't feel singled out in the midst of all the couples.

"Poppy!" Roman called. Poppy came scampering in from wherever she had been hiding and jumped up onto the couch to sit between Roman and Samuel and Matthew and Elissa. "Poppy can now enjoy New Years too."

s a m u e l

Poppy yipped happily, and Samuel smiled and pet the little dog, "Aww she seems excited," he said. He too was excited and the time between then and when it was only a minute or so left until midnight passed quickly, everyone having a nice time chatting idly.

"We should count down," Matilda suggested, and everyone made some agreeing sounds, they waited until it was ten seconds left before the new year and then they started counting,

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six," Samuel turned towards Roman and placed his hands gently on his face, "five, four, three, two, one!" at that Samuel pressed his lips to Roman's. He always loved new years kisses, it didn't matter if they were doing something special for new years or not, they were always special to him. Kissing Roman on new years indicated another year for them to be together, that's how Samuel had seen it ever since their first new years together, and this year it was extra special because t was going to be their tenth year together. He knew nothing technically special would happen in terms of their relationship, it'd still be the same, they'd still love each other unconditionally as they always did and they'd still have the same routines and things they did throughout the days, with the addition of caring for the twins of course. But it was still a huge milestone, a milestone that just further confirmed that things were completely right and perfect. That they truly were meant to be together, because they had made it that long.

The kiss was a passionate one, slightly deep, but nothing outrageous. Samuel let his hands travel from Roman's face and up to his hair. He ran his fingers through it. And then finally pulled back, murmuring "I love you, Roman" so that his first words that year would be ones of love for his husband.

Around them, the other couples were also pulling back from their kisses. Matthew still had his hand on Elissa's chin and a soft expression on his face. Delilah had taken to giving Bella an additional couple of cute kisses all over her face. Matilda had wrapped Elliot in a big hug and Evan seemed to be letting his lips linger on London's for just a little while more.

"As romantic as new year's kisses are, it's actually pretty absurd to watch everyone start to make out all at once," Gabi chuckled, from her spot in the single bubble with Blake, when it seemed like most people were done, it seemed like she was making sure to try to not interrupt anyone, "are you all done? I want to hear people's new year resolutions,"

r o m a n
The New Years' kiss with his husband was, like always, absolutely amazing. Roman almost couldn't believe they were closing in on their tenth year of being together. It all felt so surreal. Roman felt so unbelievably blessed, because he had found his true love, his soulmate, the person he was lucky enough to spend the rest of his life with. They had a baby with two more on the way, stable jobs and a great life. Roman couldn't have been happier.

"Well, my resolution is to learn how to cook more, because I feel bad that Evan has to cook most of the time and I don't like having to admit to people that I burn pasta at least once a month," London said with a small chuckle.

"Oh, shit, you're making me look bad because that's actually a good resolution, mine is just to stop wearing the same socks for five days in a row," said Elliot with a frown on his face.

"Gross," said Bella.

"Yeah? What's yours?"

"To try a different hair colour." Bella pushed a hand through her bright pink hair. "I don't know what yet, though, Delilah's going to help me decide."

"Naw, that's cute. My resolution is to reorganise my files at work because they're a mess and I hate it," Elissa shared.

"And mine is to go running more," added Blake.

"What's yours, Roman?" London asked.

Roman licked his lips, and looked at Samuel for a moment, before turning to address everyone in the room. "Mine isn't so much a resolution, it's more of just a goal, but I want to be the absolute best father I can be, to Harper and the twins when they arrive."

Roman knew he was already a good father, but regardless of that, he still wanted to improve and be as good to his children as he could. He knew it was hard to raise twins so he needed to take that into account, and it was going to be a challenge, but one he was confident about and very, very excited to undertake. He believed in himself, and in Samuel, and was immensely looking forward to welcoming the twins into their lives.

It warmed Samuel's heart to hear that was Roman's resolution for the year. Samuel placed a kiss on his husband's cheek and said, "That's mine too. I just want to make sure I'm the best husband and dad I can be this year,"

"See that's really sweet, but we all know you two are going to be able to do that, the fun ones are the one you don't know if you''ll be able to keep" Gabi said, "Like mine is that I want to try to settle down a little more, and like figure out kind of what I want to do in life this year, but who knows if that will happen"

"Wow that's such a serious one," Matilda said, "I was just going to try to experiment some more with recipes and stuff at the shop,"

"Well everything doesn't have to be serious," Delilah said, "I don't even really have one this year so I just say I'm going to eat a little healthier cus that's always a good thing to do"

"I really don't understand the point of new years resolutions, you can just promise yourself whatever you want at any time of the year, and if you really want to do it you'll do it," Matthew pointed out.

"Aww come on, Matthew, you gotta have one?" Gabi inquired.

"…. Well maybe, but I'm not telling anyone," Matthew's glance darted to Elissa for a moment and then back. Gabi didn't press more on the issue. Based on the conversation that had gone between the three of them when they just chatted normally Samuel kind of had a feeling of what that resolution could be about, and it definitely involved Elissa.

Evan just shrugged and continued with his, "I want to try to get more involved with Allison's dance, she's been more serious about it now that she's getting older."

Samuel nodded along, that was a sweet resolution in his opinion, but similar to Samuel and Roman's there was no doubt he'd do it, in fact Samuel already thought he was pretty involved with Allison's dance. "Oh, right, If you all want a more concrete goal from me I want to get better at photographing, but my first resolution is still my main one,"

"See, you being creative I more of a gamble! You might actually fail miserably,"
Gabi said and everyone laughed along with her. Samuel didn't mind because he knew it was pretty funny. He knew that had this been ten years ago he would have never thought he'd have something creative as a resolution. But he wouldn't think he would be sitting on a couch with his husband, this particular set of friends and his nails painted either. It was weird how much things could change in ten years, but Samuel didn't mind it and he mostly just looked forward to seeing what the next ten had in store for them.

"I think I am actually going to die."

Roman stood with his hand clasped tight in his husband's as they stood in front of Her Majesty's Theatre on a crisp night in January. He was looking up with wide eyes at the large Hairspray banner that was decorating the front of the building. Tonight they were finally going to see the beloved musical and in Roman's humble opinion, it was the best Christmas present anyone had ever received.

This was the theatre so one had to dress formally. Roman wore a dark green dress shirt and black dress pants and had his hair neatly combed. He had also taken all his piercings out, besides his nostril piercing because he considered that the least offensive, and he had swapped his high tops for smart dress shoes that Matthew would be proud of. He was wearing green in order to honour the shirt he had worn when he had played Link in this very musical back in their last year of high school.

There was a while before the show started, so Roman took a moment to really soak it in, before he looked down at his husband. "What if I die? The cast might be mad at me for ruining their show."

s a m u e l

"If you die I'm not going to be concerned for the cast I'm going to be upset I indirectly killed you by buying you tickets to this,"
Samuel laughed at his husband's adorable excitement. He was looking absolutely fantastic that day, all fancy and in colours that reminded Samuel of when he had played the lead in this very musical, only at a much smaller scale.

Samuel was also dressed nicely in a pretty standard white dress shirt, dark grey dress pants and the same kind of dress shoes as Roman. He was even wearing argyle socks because everyone knew argyle was the fanciest fun pattern on socks.

"So please don't die, like, I'm happy you're excited but I'd be very sad," Samuel joked. He truly was happy Roman was excited. He had planned this evening as a Christmas gift for Roman because he knew they wouldn't have as much time for things like this as soon as the twins were born. He was really looking forward to bringing home their two little babies, but he was also going to miss the extra free time they had gotten since Harper had started daycare and gotten old enough for them not to feel reluctant to let others babysit him. So, that evening would be all about them. Roman was getting to do something he loved and Samuel got to see him all excited and happy as well as enjoying the same musical he had seen Roman be a part of so many years ago.

"Who do you think will have done Link better, you or whoever is playing him today?" Samuel asked, jokingly. No matter how good this guy would be Samuel would prefer Roman's rendition of the character, but he was biased.

r o m a n
"Definitely me," Roman joked. "Nah, I'm kidding. Considering this is like a Broadway production I'll be pretty disappointed if this other guy is better than me so hopefully he lives up to my standards."

Eventually Roman stopped admiring the banner and together he walked into the building with his husband. They handed their tickets to the clerk, put their coats in the coatroom and made their way into the theatre, which was slowly filling up with the audience members. It was large and the stage was huge and that just made Roman even more excited. As they made their way to the seats, Roman inspected the stage and found it to be quite impressive, though that wasn't a surprise.

The seats were the perfect distance away from the stage to be in good and clear view. Roman sat down and bounced on the edge of his seat impatiently, even though the show wouldn't be starting for at least ten more minutes.

"Holy shit. I have never been more excited in my entire life. I wonder what the cast will be like? Will Link be hot enough? Will Tracy be awesome enough? What about Amber, she had better be super petty or I will be so fucking pissed. I saw a video where in the opening song Tracy descends from the ceiling in a bed and then starts singing, I hope they do that today. Do you think we'll get kicked out if I try to out-sing Link?"

s a m u e l

Soon they entered the theatre which was slowly filling up with people. Samuel had made sure to pick out seats that he knew would be good, he wanted Roman to have the best experience possible that night. And his excitement didn't seem to fade as he was doing that thing when he was bringing up a whole bunch of different things at once. Which Samuel had noticed he tended to do when he was excited or nervous, and clearly, this was a case of the first alternative.

Samuel leaned in and gave Roman a quick kiss on the lips because he was being too adorable for him to resist and then he addressed all things Roman had said, like he often did when his husband got rambly like that, "Don't try to out-sing Link, please, that isn't very nice and if you get kicked out you won't get to see the musical. And I hope she descends from the ceiling that sounds really awesome. And I'm sure they'll be hot enough. If Link isn't you can at least comfort yourself in knowing you're the hottest guy who has played him,"

Samuel doubted it was possible to be hotter than Roman, yet he still continued by saying, "Although, what if this guy is like super, duper, hot?" Around them most people were still talking and getting seated, it was closing in on the time for the musical to start, but not quite yet so there was no harm in them talking, "What if he becomes my new favourite person to have played Link. Will you get jealous and walk up on stage, push him out of the way and take over?"

r o m a n
"Yes, I one hundred percent will, that's why I'm dressed for the part," Roman said. He was joking, but it didn't sound like it, and the poor teen girl sitting behind them coughed in surprise. Roman looked up at her with concern. "You okay?" he asked politely.

The girl seemed a little dazzled, staring for a few seconds before she snapped herself out of her trance and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Great," Roman said with a shiny smile. "Enjoy the show."

The girl just nodded and Roman turned back around and leaned his head against his husband's shoulder. After all, this was their night, and he wanted to give all his spare attention to him rather than random girls who probably thought he was a really hot psychopath.

After a few more minutes, the lights began to dim, except for the stage lights, and Roman let out a low gasp as he realised it was starting. "Shut up, shut up, shut up, oh my god," he whisper-shouted as he frantically slapped Samuel's thigh. "Shut up, its starting."

s a m u e l

"You're the one who needs to shut up,"
Samuel whispered with a slight chuckle. He caught Roman's hand to stop him from repeatedly slapping his leg and kissed it. Then he decided to keep it in his so he would sit still as the musical started.

And started it did. Samuel wasn't sure if he wanted to watch the musical or Roman, but settled for being normal and watched it, because he felt like roman would get more happiness out of him watching everything properly, so they could talk about it later than Samuel just creepily staring at him to see his cute reactions. He did glance over at Roman occasionally though, he just couldn't resist it.

The musical as really good in Samuel's opinion, of course, he didn't have that much to compare it to and didn't know as much about what a good musical included as Roman. But all the actors were really cute and Samuel thought they fit the descriptions of the characters Roman had given him, and they all sung really well. No one sang as well or was as cute as Roman though, but there certainly was another level of professionalism to it than there had been during the high school plays.

Eventually, the first act was over, which meant a small little break before the next one. A couple of people moved out of their seats, presumably to visit the bathroom or go get some snacks. But Samuel stayed seated and simply turned to Roman, excited to hear his opinion, "Do you like it? Are they all as cute as you want them to be or are you planning on replacing someone for the second act?"

r o m a n
Roman started at the stage, completely transfixed, as the musical unfolded before him. God, it was amazing. It made the production he had done in Year 12 look like a crude primary school play that parents secretly thought was shit but went to anyone to support their children. Roman couldn't take his eyes off the actors as they spoke the lines and sang the songs that he knew better than the back of his hand. It was incredible to watch this be performed in front of him, by professional actors, on an amazing and prestigious stage.

"I wouldn't change anything, holy shit, this is the best thing I've ever seen," Roman gushed. He decided to stay in his seat during intermission, simply because he knew that there would be a large line to get back in when the break ended, and he didn't want to miss a thing. He looked up at his husband with big green doe eyes and the most adoring expression on his face. "Thank you so much for bringing me here, Samuel, you have no idea how much this means to me."

Soon the intermission was over and the rest of the performance commenced. Roman continued to watch with unwavering attention as the cast sang and danced and paraded across the stage. When the performance eventually came to an end, Roman was almost in tears out of pure joy, and he stood up along with everyone else to give the cast a loud and passionate standing ovation.

It had been absolutely amazing and Roman had had the time of his life. Once he was outside with Samuel, he pulled his husband into a tight hug, burying his face in those gorgeous chocolate curls.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you, oh my god, that was absolutely amazing, thank you."
